near drowning...great video!

Recommended Posts

Weird. The guy had regular agonal respirations from the first shock, as well as movements they called "spasms". Before the first shock, they said he had no pulse, but the only place they checked was his left wrist, so that's a dubious finding. And he was breathing regularly before the third shock. I couldn't tell what kind of AED that was, but I'm having some doubts about it, lol.

And seriously, Australia is the last place I would go to learn English!

I'm going to say, it's one of those Survivalink "First Save" AED's, judging by that ugly ass orange encasement.

I notice that the voice prompts were in English, and not in Aussie. Surprising. Philips uses languages and even specific dialects suited to specific regions in their voice prompts. It's interesting hearing a Scottish AED saying, "STOND BOCK!" before the shock is delivered!

I think that was a great video....

I also questioned the 'agonal appearing' resps. and wondered if they couldn't have been supported at that point...I'm not sure.

The one thing I did notice, in reference to our ongoing discussion of treat the patient and not the monitor, is that after he began to breath well, the rescuers continued to follow the instructions of the machine instead of supporting the patient.

Not perfect perhaps, but not bad! Thanks for posting it!

Really interesting video and overall they (the lifeguards) did a sufficient job. Early recognition of inadequate respirations and early defib access being the two most impressive.

In terms of what they are – lifeguards I think they did a good job. A nervous lifeguard will never find a pulse like that of a paramedic that has gone to 30 arrests this year. If I was to critique their care I would suggest earlier CPR (and faster!), to me this was slow in beginning (they noted he had no pulse but delayed CPR). I would suggest earlier airway control. They got him back after 3 shocks and so therefore that would indicate 6 minutes of BLS prior to the guy holding an OPA in his hand (assuming it’s a new defib)

Like I said these guys are lifeguards and did a good job for their levels of training. One other point could be to have a clear leader take control of the scene and the pt care, there were quite a few chiefs in there! Good job boys, you saved another one!!

As a side note that narration makes me cringe – maxalon to help stabilise him (must be our new miracle drug!!!)? And 3 shocks means he has no chance at living?

My stab at this would be a hypoxia based cardiac arrest. I would have thought he would present in PEA especially at that age. Looks to me those “spasms” they are talking about is decorticate posturing; airway, airway, airway!

It’s Bondi Rescue  Need I say more  Bunch of pretty boys playing heroes. They have no clinical understanding and very basic education, the TV show and modeling contracts pay more than being a lifeguard. Most of what you see on Bondi Rescue is fake, like the night they had some dude drowning yet the camera man was 2 meters away or they give drugs without getting a history or taking vitals then 20mins later discharge them back to surfing. Its good for a laugh.

Should I ever wake up with 5 naked men around me, calling me Mate and telling me it's ok, just lay still and relax...I'm thinking we're going to need more ambulances...

Just sayin'....
