Ahhh I got 2 answers for this!!

My VERY First Call in EMS, Was with my VOlunteer Ambulance Service, we got a call around midnight for an older lady who fell in her Kitchen.

She was complaining of hip pain, i did my assessment, palpated her pelvis and it was stable, i thought about the scoop stretcher but, with the stable pelvis i didnt think she had a broken hip, so we logg rolled her onto a backboard and she hollered out in pain. >.< oops.

THEN I thought i was going to die,

Her vitals were all stable, and was in good spirits, so my partner, ripping down the bumpy highway, 140 KPH, in a rainstorm....ive seriously never been so scared to be in the back of an ambulance!!

My first call on my First FULL Time EMS job

We got a call for an MVC.

An older guy smoked an 8 ball, and tried to commit suicide by ramming an oncoming SUV in his little car, No Seatbelt, No airbags (Yes it was highway speeds)

My heart was just a pounding, and adrenaline Flowing and i thouhgt "Ohhh man this is gonna be one of those Holy Sh** Calls"

BUT......

we got there and Both drivers had NO INJURIES!!!

Figure that out.....

Ok if the Pt. in the 'little car' just smoked an 8ball, they were more than likely relaxed when they hit the 'suv' which causes less damage than when someone tenses up before an impact. I guess the 'suv' Pt. was protected because the other vehicle was small and their vehicle was larger, also did they have seatbelt and airbags, that would make a difference, and were they able to slow down before impact. Just my thoughts....

wow been awhile.. well my first call was a psych patient that tried putting my cell phone up her crotch cause she thought it was on vibrate....

Lesson learned never let patient have access to your cell phone, that was my biggest rookie mistake too as far as i know.
