Need for a Blakemore tube is virtually a death sentence.

Yep, had a patient with one about 2 months ago. Needless to say, the outcome was...less than optimal. I have generally used Octreotide and blood products in the ER. The real problem is with the portal venous pressures and loss of clotting factors. Unfortunately, with chronic liver disease, both will continue to be problematic.
