  1. I apologize if this is the wrong place, or an irrelevent question, or if I should have searched better to find the answer. My question has to do with clothing for EMT's. I know there are all kinds of specialty pants out there, crazy stuff with scissor pockets and etc. Can somebody hook me in on the intel of what is good and what is junk out there? What kind of clothing is used? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. DustDevil : I can't discuss the specifics of the deployment, because at this time we haven't formally accepted it. Once we do, we'll be able to start dropping some intel. I'll let you know when I know. I work in personnel so I got a little heads up something was coming. I was in Balad the first go around with an NG Infantry unit attached to an MP BN/BDE. An interesting experience to say the least. PrimeMedic: Thanks for the heads up. I think I'm going to go there for my B anyway, the most driving factor is that the class gets out a full month before the one at NEEMSI, and with the looming deployment I want to get on the street and start doing the real thing ASAP. I've got a friend who is the director of a Rescue Squad who wants to put me to work, and is going to help me get some additional clinical time, so as long as I can deal with PowerPoint (I'm military, we're trained  ) I think I'll be good. Its all in what you put into it anyway. Again, I really appreciate the honest truth, and I'll be way ahead of everyone else if I'm expecting it to not be all that great. Just means I need to put my own effort in, which I can handle.
  3. Thanks, I appreciate the heads up.
  4. I apologize, I don't frequent this site as much as I probably should, so forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I looked around and it looked the best for the subject. I just recently talked to New England Health and Safety Resources of Manchester, NH about taking their EMT-B course to finally get started in this side of the Fire/Rescue field. I'm wondering if anyone out there has any feedback on these guys and their program. I'm preparing to deploy again in the next 6 months (voluntarily this time) and want to get some better basic medical training, as it seems they never have time to put Military Officers through the CLS course... Any input would be appreciated, thanks!
  5. Not to ressurrect an old thread or anything, but I have had some time in boots, even though not in EMS land. I would guide you folks to take a serious look at matching the boots you wear to the environment you are in. I love boots, as long as they are the right ones for what I am doing, and the ankle support in most is great, and I can see a benefit for those in the EMS community. If you are going to be on pavement (which I assume most are) for most of your work, then the "panama" sole that comes on Jungle boots has the potential to hurt your feet more than they help. While the boot itself is a great boots, (breathability and all that) the sole is not designed fro use on pavement. Resole those boots with the vibram sierra soles to get some real comfort out of them. Also, there are a bunch of boots being manufactured now for comfort and reliability (a first in the Military Realm). Basics like the Belleville 390's (perhaps in the "non-desert" varient depending on your department's policies) are great boots which have some sneaker like properties. Also you have a variety of "SF" type boots from people like Altama and I think Adidas. Boots are getting better, and there are many out there to choose from.
