  1. Except, thousands of contractors and "advisers" were not left behind in North Korea.

    No, there were thousands of combat trops stationed very close to korea.

    Whats the number there at the moment... 30K or something like that?

    I know that 3 years after the ceasefire by grandfather was still patrolling kansas.

  2. i love the fact then when we start bitching about "delaying transport" to a trauma centre that there is only ever an inference on the IV. For example, you have never seen anyone say "You delayed transport of major trauma patient to put a c-collar on?!!" or a pelvic splint or provide pain relief for their extruciating injuries.

    Where is the attention to wholistic patient management?? Where is the attention to time management of the whole case from start to finish?

    Why do we instatly go "you fucked up" instead of "Good work guys, that was a tough job", and the criticism is only ever based a what amounts to a few seconds in time over the sometimes hours of a single case.

    BEorP, i think your being a bit black v white here man.

  3. Do not worry, while the COMBAT troops have left Iraq, there are still 5,000-10,000 active duty "Advisers" left behind and about 35,000+ civilian contractors to do the jobs which still need to be done. Not to mention the 10K plus soldiers who have been shifted to Kuwait to stay close for an indefinite amount of time.

    Also the 6 publicly known "enduring bases" and the not public bases which will never leave Iraq.

    And our large Navy fleet who hangs out in Bahrain for quick action...

    So while active combat units have left, do not kid yourself into thinking the USA as a whole is gone from there.

    Sounds like when the UN withdrew combat forces from korea......

  4. Unfortunately it is NOT a joke, I have been witness to many a woman that used her feminine attributes to have FF or LEO do the lifting .. nothing pisses me off more that this BS ploy.

    yeah, theres this wayward set of moral sensibilities with these people, and they are usually the ones who cry sexism when they dont get what they want.

    Typical male answers, as you ignore the blatent discrimination by so many employers. These lifting test are nothing but a way to keep women out of EMS. I will bet anyone 1000 dollars that if we went to this employer and dragged employees from the field that have been there 10 years (male or female), half of them could not pass this test, and I guarantee you 100% of the male managers could not pass it.

    i swear you must eithe be crotchity or a relative of.

    Simple fact is that your partner should not have to lift more because you are not up to it.

  5. what about us giving the draino bushy......some of us can do that now....

    So they should, unfortunately department of health is so busy screwing things it will be a while before they can find some of that money being blown on bullshit and use it for something useful.

    Of course, the city ICP's transmit their twelve lead and have a ridicuously short door to PCI time.... rural people just get screwed over that little bit more.

  6. But remember if you don't vote, you cannot fricking complain about whoever wins.

    Yeah

    Honestly, i think the integrity of your whole political system is compromised by the american non-voter

  7. Without invasive ICP monitoring it not possible to really control or monitor you interventions. The effect of you vasopressor for instance could either be very good or very bad, but you will never know without a transducer in place.

    If you grab the algorithim you have and start playing with the digits (MAP and ICP) youll find that a B/P of 120 will maintain resonable CPP over the broadest range IF the ICP is not too high. Elevated systolic pressure is not necessarily good but it will maintain a reasonoable range of CPP. Moderate to severe hypotension, even in a patient with a ICP at the high end of normal is nearly always inadequate.

    So, mainating what you can. Keep the ETCo2 stable at 35mmHg ( I think the magic number escapes me) and treat hypotension. if they are coning there is nothing you can do except influence the time to difinitive care.

    Of course, i could have just made that crap up, but it sounds good ;)

  8. Sorry man, im not sure what your asking. If its about GTN my answer is no. The pt is denying "chest pain" pr se (even with the shoulder tingling) but the inferior on an already unstable patient even with a B/P of 160 would be a no go zone to me... and thats a pretty big statesment as going by the book (our book) he is indicated for it, so i'd withold and keep frank-starling happy. Also, at 50 y/o i dont think he is likely to have well devloped significant collateral circulation, so there is a chance the GTN will have minimal effect with a whole lot of risk attached.

    Treating with aspirin and diesel is more than appropriate, he either gets drano from the local hospital or a chopper ride to a PCI lab.

  9. Your gonna have to figure out what you want to see and then figure out what time of year to come. I ran into som Poms at a servo on the Freeway here a few months back. they were losing their marbles because they had no idea how far apart things were, thought they could drive from melbourne to brisbane in a day.

  10. I didn't find out until recently, that in Korea, there were so many nation's armies fighting North Korean and Chinese Armies.

    Not surprised..... any forces working under Douglas MacArthur other than US tended to be "left out" of media reporting at thte time, and subequently lost to popular history.

  11. Yup the "colonials" were cannon fodder for the brits.

    But go PPCLI .. kick some asses you always do !

    I have a soft spot for PPCLI because along with 3RAR with whom my grandfather served a 3inch mortar were the 2 major units at Kapyong in Korea. An historic moment in commonwealth military history

  12. Yup the "colonials" were cannon fodder for the brits.

    But go PPCLI .. kick some asses you always do !

    Perhaps being colonial cannon fodder is why canadian new zealanders and australian are so much alike.

    We should form the New Canadaustralia empire and take over the world :D

    Love he song, i ant figure out why but gee toby keith shits me for some reason

  13. I left indonesia and egypt off the list by accident

    You'd be surprised to know that for some australians erved with the british in russia and im pretty sure canada sent a whole expedition there for the civil war, so for some the first world war for them finished in 1919. You wont find a record of that in australia because the government didn't want its name on it, so the few we sent were rolled in with the british, even though they were to still wear australian uniform's.

    In fact, Australians won 2 victoria crosses in that theatre of war.

    Some war memorials in australia for the first world war list the "great war" from 1914 to 1919 because of this

    There were also a bunch of guys still in the middle east who either voluntered for, or were pressed into service in egypt to suppress some kind of anti-british uprising. A few guys were killed there after WW1 finished but before they could ship home, hene why the inclusinve dates for WW1 serviceman runs all the way to 1921 for the service records... bloody empire building.

    Actually the losses for Aus since it first went to war in 1860 (believe it or not, against New Zealanders!) are just a tad ovr 100 000, pales in comparison to the UK, US or france, but considering that nearly all our dead have died on foreign soil makes it more poignant in my opinion

    Oh man, how could i forget this.

    Rudyard Kiplingwrote about how society treats its soldiers in 1890

    I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o'beer,

    The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."

    The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,

    I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:

    O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";

    But it's ``Thank you, Mister Atkins,'' when the band begins to play,

    The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,

    O it's ``Thank you, Mr. Atkins,'' when the band begins to play.

    I went into a theatre as sober as could be,

    They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;

    They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,

    But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!

    For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";

    But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,

    The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,

    O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

    Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep

    Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;

    An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit

    Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.

    Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy how's yer soul?"

    But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,

    The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,

    O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

    We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,

    But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;

    An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints:

    Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;

    While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind,"

    But it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind,

    There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,

    O it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind.

    You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires an' all:

    We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.

    Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face

    The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.

    For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"

    But it's "Saviour of 'is country," when the guns begin to shoot;

    An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;

    But Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

    Things aint changed much

  14. Not the best version by a long shot, but listen to the lyrics.

    For the ausitralian NAM vets that society conveniently forgets

    Tens of thousands of australians have died all over the world in and not limetd too the first and second boer war, Boxer rebellion, Zulu Wars, Sudan, Maori wars, WW1, Russian civil war, WW2, Occupation of Japan, Malaya, Korea, Vietnam, East Timor, Afghanistan, Iraq.

    Society shits me, we like waving banners until the body count rises then we whinge that we should bring the boys home

    "our return did not appear popular, and i gathered too many of us had returned home"
