  1. wow, that was awesome........ high^5 to the creator of that video...... great work!
  2. These guys are awesome! Thanks for letting us know about them!!!
  3. My first loss was a burn pt. in a suicide fire in 2003...... In fact, it was my very first clinical ride as an EMT-B, my first time EVER stepping foot into an ambulance, my first experience with EMS outside of the classroom setting, my very first call EVER..... I was 21 years old at the time, ready to fullfill a childhood dream..... My first day of riding, we are called to a fire...... We get there, are rehydrating some of the firefighters, etc, and then finally when it is all said and done, the firefighters find a pt inside the house..... the pt. had doused his house in gasoline, set it on fire, and shot himself in the head...... So, needless to say, my first call haunted me everytime I closed my eyes to go to sleep at night..... I had seriously considered dropping the class and quitting after that day, but I stuck with it, went to a CISD with some of the others, and just had to keep telling myself that they don't all end up that way..... 3 years later, I am so glad that I stuck with it..... I have seen some many more gruesome sights, had nights that everytime I closed my eyes I saw the faces of patients, but that's just part of the job, right? But there's also the "success" calls (someone that you picked up recognizes you and thanks you, with a hug to go with it) and many other reasons that make it worthwhile......... I know I would have regretted it today if I had quit after that first call......
  4. I have a friend (fellow Paramedic) that said his service is implementing a routine where every EMT/Paramedic working there must pass some sort of fitness test every so often..... He said it will be similar to what Firefighters must pass..... I can't remember what all he said it would consist of, but I was wondering if yall know of many services that do this for EMTs and Paramedics? If so, can you give some details about what it consists of? I wish I had more details to post, but it was a very quick conversation. Hope yall are having a great night! Thanks, Kelli
  5. As an EMT with ADHD, I just make sure I've studied my hardest well in advance for any exam, especially for the state and national registry exams. I take Adderall, and I must say it works wonders for me. I am able to calm down and focus with it (for people without ADHD, its basically just Speed). Some people don't like considering amphetamines, and I was against it at first, but now I believe it works great for some people. Other than that, the test usually goes smoothly as long as the room is fairly quiet and there's not a circus going on or anything. Good luck!!! ~Kelli
  6. We recently had a CPR recert night... our instructor told us to start practicing on our own, then he pops in a CD and starts playing "Another One Bites the Dust"..... we stop and look at each other like "WTF?!?! That's just wrong to play that right now..." lol... So we're all lookin at him like he's crazy and he says to do the compressions to the beat of "Another One Bites the Dust". Sure enough, the compression rate fits with the beat... adding up to a rate of 100/min. So now everytime I do CPR, I sing the song in my head. Just make sure not to sing it outloud while on-scene... I imagine that family members might get a little upset if that were to happen... lol.
  7. My score on The Personality Defect Test: ************************************** Emo Kid (You are 14% Rational, 14% Extroverted, 28% Brutal, and 0% Arrogant.) "You are the Emo Kid, best described as a quiet pussy! You tend to be an intuitive rather than a logical thinker, meaning you rely more on your feelings than your thoughts. Not only that, but you are introverted, gentle, and rather humble. You embody all the traits of the perfect emo kid. You are a push-over, an emotional thinker, gentle to the extent of absurdity, and so humble that it even makes Jesus puke. (And Jesus almost never pukes, being immortal and not requiring an act of puke to dispell toxins from his corporeal manifestation.) If you write poetry, you no doubt write angsty, syrupy lines about depression, sadness, and other such redundant states of emo-being that go something like this: life is a spike / upon which i have impaled mysefl / fuck you dad So, your personality is defective because you are too gentle, rather underconfident in yourself, decidely lacking in any rational thought, and also a bit too inhibited. Plus, your poetry really upsets your father. I probably made you cry, didn't I? Fucking Emo Kid. To put it less negatively: 1. You are more INTUITIVE than rational. 2. You are more INTROVERTED than extroverted. 3. You are more GENTLE than brutal. 4. You are more HUMBLE than arrogant. Compatibility: Your exact opposite is the &&&&Smartass. Other personalities you would probably get along with are the &&&&Hippie, the &&&&Televangelist, and the &&&&Starving Artist. * * If you scored near fifty percent for a certain trait (42%-58%), you could very well go either way. For example, someone with 42% Extroversion is slightly leaning towards being an introvert, but is close enough to being an extrovert to be classified that way as well. Below is a list of the other personality types so that you can determine which other possible categories you may fill if you scored near fifty percent for certain traits. The other personality types: &&&&The Emo Kid: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Humble. &&&&The Starving Artist: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant. &&&&The Bitch-Slap: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Humble. &&&&The Brute: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant. &&&&The Hippie: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble. &&&&The Televangelist: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant. &&&&The Schoolyard Bully: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble. &&&&The Class Clown: Intuitive, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant. &&&&The Robot: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Humble. &&&&The Haughty Intellectual: Rational, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant. &&&&The Spiteful Loner: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Humble. &&&&The Sociopath: Rational, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant. &&&&The Hand-Raiser: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble. &&&&The Braggart: Rational, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant. &&&&The Capitalist Pig: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Humble. &&&&The Smartass: Rational, Extroverted, Brutal, Arrogant. Be sure to take my Sublime Philosophical Crap Test if you are interested in taking a slightly more intellectual test that has just as many insane ramblings as this one does!" ************************************** Take it! http://www.okcupid.com/tests/take?testid=4741219933576750506
