  1. Bare makes a good point... when the new heart is put back into the chest how would this patient "feel" any pain from tissue damage in the heart... the other question I have is how is the heart beat regulated is a pacer implanted with the heart every time? or is there enough nerves reconnected that the heart is able to regulate its rate based on the bodies demand and "Feel" tissue damage? never really thought about transplants before... great topic... Might need new thread?

  3. On the subject of bad toys for kids... check out this news clip of a dad who bought his 10 y/o daughter a mp3 player that plays video for christmas this past year. When she opened it on christmas morning she found if full of PORN... I think her coment was "why would sant do this to me?" Part of me is like thats messed up.. the other part wants to know why a 10 y/o girl still belives in santa? JJ
  4. I Would have to agree with these guys... it seems to me no matter how much they "force" you to work if you get in a accident and Kill someone you and your family are the ones who have to deal with the consequences. There is more to life then EMS and as a family man you should understand that. It might be better to work at your local fast food joint (for the same pay) then to take the chance on being injured, maimed or killed. Just my thoughts... 8) JJ
  5. Wow... I don't know about how any other state runs but here in NH the Intermediate Level is with out question a nessesary and essential part of our EMS system!!! Here in NH we are serviced but not only fire Dept and private ambulance services but also volunteer ambulance services and fast squads. The EMT-I Level is only 180 hr course after the basic has been completed. however in a system that relizes on volunteers and is lacking Medic coverage in the all of our "back woods" towns the Intermediate Can perform some very needed Skills that the basic Can not... including D50 in a Diebetic, Epi SQ in Anaphlaxis, First round cardiac arrest drugs... (epi, atropine) and ET intubation. with Medics being scarce and people not being able to give up the time or money to attend Medic School while still working full time jobs the intermediates in our state provide a great service!!!! ~street~
  6. You guys can correct me if I am wrong but after 3 years of Nursing school why not take a third option if you are worried about failing the batchlers... Don't you have your assosiates Degree by now? I know Many a nurse that stopped after two years and went into the work force. the only thing the batchlors degree will help with is if you go into managment right? Mabey I am wrong I have not started Nursing school just yet but That is what I understand from the Nurses in my area (New Hampshire). With that said if that is not the case then I would suggest banging out your last year and not stepping backwards into an EMT class. you will be frustrated at how little they teach you about so many things. (A&P, Proceedures, Meds, Assesment) the EMT Basic level is a valuble and Nessesary tool but as DUST said EMT is not a carreer only a stepping stone for further advancement good luck with your choice!! ~street~
  7. My wife and I are moving to Iowa in the Cedar Rapids area. I am a NREMT-P with one and a half hears experience as a medic and 6 years as an Intermediate and Basic. I have an Associates in Paramedicine, ACLS, ACLS instructor, PALS, BLS I am looking for a Good Medic Service to apply to in the area. I am not looking for anyone to set me up with a job but I know there are always services that are better than others. Can anyone point me in a good direction or a couple of good directions? Thanks for you help ~Street~
  8. I am new to the forum but have a little story to share with you about combitubes and the lack of training at even the I-tech level... Here in VT we use the Combitube and the EOA as back up airways for paramedics and the combitube for the primary airway for the I-tech level... (no advanced airway aloud at the basic level) I agree that there is a lot of problems with the training In EMS... the other day I was talking to an I-tech that had responded to a "unknown medical" that turned into a working code on arrival... the medic was called and a Combitube was placed... it was pulled by the medic who successfully intubated this patient. Later at the hospital while speaking to the I-tech He was very proud that he got this combitube place correctly.. I was wondering why he was so ecstatic then he told me that he is 1for2 in his combitubes!!!!! I was shocked... how do you MISS with a one shot does not matter where the tube goes airway? he informed me that he could not hear lung sounds in the bases and that he had belly sounds with both tubes... as the conversation went on he said that he use the deflector this time because last time he was hit with.... and I quote "VOMIT FROM THE TUBE" on his last attempt... I almost lost it... He is starting the medic class in the next couple of months... I am in shock that somebody this stupid can even be let into a medic class never mind possibly become a medic... These are the kinds of people that give EMS a bad name and why we will never be considered a profession untill we do something about the education... thanks for listening to me rant... hope the future is brighter then the present...
