  1. I for one, have seen all of this fools drivel I can stand. Can't someone apply a greatly needed boot?
  2. In my professional medical opinion, the OP is in dire need of a 9mm bolus.
  3. All this talk about professionalism, and yet the troll can't even hit spell check? And since when do professionals throw out statements like "I am an EMSGOD", and all the rest of the drivel this jackass is spouting? I've read all your post dickhead, and the only motive I can see is a desire to provoke everyone you come into contact with. Go away Troll.
  4. This guy can't get it through his head that ambulances don't have to have fire stations to survive. And who advocated elimination of 75% of the fire stations anyway. Trying to reason with this guy is futile.
  5. Get online and find a "learnatest" site, take the two paramedic exams until you feel comfortable with them. If you can't find one, PM me, or go to www.docolib.org and look for the learn a test icon. Good luck and let me know how it goes, I take mine in December.
  6. Take it, mmmmm breakfast.......leave, grouchy EMT who's has his panties in a wad
  7. Looks like welcome to the chat room, notice there hasn't been any more post
  8. Ahh, but what did you have to endure to get that Slacker schedule Dust? Think I'll opt for the 24/48 myself. (I had no idea what a Kelly shift was either, but we aren't aflicted with Fire thankfully)
  9. Best bet is to have the new tanks with the dial and eliminate the need for the wrench entirely. Damn thing is always getting lost or broken anyway.
  10. WTF? Dust and I agree on something again???? Holy Dog Strudel Batman !!! Yep, Rural EMS is where the rubber meets the road. Longer time to the hospital means more time spent treating your patient, instead of tossing them in the truck and running around the corner to the ER. I would rather slit my wrist, strap on dynamite and walk into an embassy than work urban EMS, but hey, thats just me. The first and foremost importance is to continue your education, become the best you can possibly be, and use what you learn to provide quality care for your patient. Don't stop at the EMT level, be it Basic or Intermediate, because unless you are just in it for the lights and sirens, you will quickly become frustrated at both your lack of knowledge and lack of ability to treat your patient. And that is exactly what you should be in this profession for, the patient, because the money damn sure isn't the attraction. Anyway, welcome to the City. Peace Out
  11. Hell yes we have a similar situation, in the US, especially where I live, the Hispanics, the Hatians, etc have come in droves to do farm work. They have no desire to learn english. We have to deal with them more and more, and the burden it has placed on the economy is immense. A very small majority of them have any insurance, so reimbursement is nil. Then there is the language barrier, how can one adequately treat them if you cannot obtain history, or even specifics of the cheif complaint. Of course, if it is glaringly obvious, yes, like trauma calls, but then again, they very seldom hang around the scene of any incident, so the trauma calls to them are fewer than one would think. Take a look at the Neatherlands, where they've had a large influx of Muslems, who not only have the language problems, but also the culture differences and they try to force their culture and beliefs upon the native community.
  12. Isn't this pretty much the same conversation we have beat to death in other threads? Fire wants to take over EMS to ensure the survival of big Fire. The changes in building codes and materials used alone have reduced the number of residental fires we see. As for the industrial setting, the fire detection devices and suppression systems have as well. Will there still be fires, of course, as long as there are fuel sources and idiots, there will be fires. But, gone are the days of splinter construction and dusty sweatshops and the need for a fire brigade on each corner. Thus, Big Fire has seen the writing on the wall, and reacted early to ensure it's survival by the easiest means available, take over EMS. But ask your average firefighter about being an EMT or a Paramedic, and the most common answer is, "have to have it to work with the department", not, "that's what I wanted to be". They have their big unions, who lobby for their takeover, and we are so damn busy fighting about whether EMTs have a reason for living, or if Paragods are ruining the profession, that we let them get their hands in the cookie jar and damn near steal everything. EMS is just that, Emergency MEDICAL service, not Fire Fighting and if the flames die down, we might have time to check you out. If you want to fight fire, be my guest. I have no desire to fight fire and shine up the big red truck, my desire, my profession is about patient care. Don't blow smoke up my ass telling me that fire is the best thing for EMS, it isn't. Mr. Mayor, the time for fire to take over EMS is NEVER.
  13. Isn't this the same guy that busted my chops for an alleged misspelling? Should this not be "the" way you are trying to get there? Sorry, but you opened the door big guy...
  14. Leave it, got my own,.... a rainy night in Georgia, Cairo to be exact
  15. And then there are those patients who think they are a bull....
  16. One of the problems we have is the nursing homes sitting on patients until they are circling the drain, then calling us. The other is they call 911 and we rush out there only to find its a direct admit to the floor. But there are good nurses there who take care of their patients, the balance is about 50/50.
  17. Leave it, use a car key anyway, leaving a Memphis Fire Lt.
  18. Absence seizures? New onset of hypothyriodism?
  19. And while you were 12 in 1985 I was a Sergeant in the Army serving in Germany, and a Combat Lifesaver to boot, so perhaps just perhaps, I might have a little life experience and insight on which to base my opinions. I have seen the swing to fire based EMS in my own state, and also seen Fire/Police in the town I live in. It didn't and doesn't work. Period. Just because I decided to come in full time only recently, doesn't mean I existed in a vacuum prior to that. Fire based EMS may work for you, but from what I've seen, it is only the beginning of the demise of my chosen profession.
  20. My full time job, we wear black bdu pants and polo shirts with embroidered writing and emblems, my part time job, we wear Kkaki bdu pants with bright red button up shirts with embroidered writing and emblems. They look nice, but a pain in the butt when you jump up at three am to go on a call.
  21. My Dear Mr. Memphis, I am appalled at the fact that you, a lofty knowledgeable Fire Lieutenant does not know that there are two levels of EMT Intermediate recognized by the NREMT, and that they are distinguished by the annotation of the year the levels were established. However, due to your obvious oversight, allow me to explain. You are free to verify this on the NREMT's website, and can as well follow up with the Georgia EMS website. EMT-Intermediate 1985 standard EMT-Intermediate 1999 standard. Depending on which standard your state recognizes, and, as we all know, some states don't recognize Intermediates at all, will determine what level you are trained to in you school. Surely one would have thought that someone with your vast knowledge and grasp of the educational system would be well versed in all levels of EMS training and educational standards. (Gasp in Shock) And no, my dear Richard Cranium, I have been an EMT-I (1985 standard) since 2005, and will in fact, graduate in December as your most hated thing, a Paramedic. I am minded of a quote I believe it was Samuel Clemens, I could be wrongs, but anyway I thought of it when I read your offerings. "It is better to remain quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
  22. Just to prove you wrong on at least one thing, Michael Duke EMT-I85 Paramedic Student 2008 Grady County EMS Cairo Georgia 229 400 3277 Deez Nutz big enough for you little man?
  23. Ok, I admit, I can't spell well at 3 am after running all night, but regardless, spellcheck missed it too. But the gist of the matter is, every time someone brings up a subject or point in this discussion that you dislike, you attack them, and ignore or ridicule what they've pointed out, rather than address the issue. The idea that EMS has taken over fire departments nationwide seems a bit farfetched to me, as if you notice, it is always Firefighter/EMT, not EMT/Firefighter, and Fire Rescue/EMS. But I digress. I concede that economically, fire does have a greater effect, what with the cost of reconstruction, etc, but that wasn't the issue here. The issue was, and still is, that EMS is being shuttled to the side so that big Fire can continue to dominate. And EMS as a profession suffers from it. Did I, anywhere in my postings, advocate taking away all your engines? No, you have to have them when they are needed. Same goes for things like scoop stretchers, Broslow bags, and all those little goodies on the ambulance, that are rarely needed, but you damn sure better have when the bottom drops out. I doubt if anything said here will promote the needed changes. At any rate, if you want to discuss these things, then lets do so in a sensible manner, without all the attacks. When you throw slurs and attacks rather than facts and discussion, you make yourself look foolish. Addressing the issues is a much better way to get your point across.
