  1. Tried the barber shop downtown for a haircut today rather than the mall. So worth it! Straight razor for the neck and sideburns, classic barbershop decor, great haircut.

  2. That's it, I'm buying a snowblower for next year! So when we get no snow whatsoever next year and it sits unused, you can thank me. I love winter, I'm happy that we've actually had a real winter, but I can't throw the snow any higher and I've still got 5" on ice on 3/4 of my driveway.

  3. Teaching Standard First Aid for the first time in a long while. Umm... How do you do CPR again? ;)

  4. The ice guillotine waiting for me when I got home this morning.

  5. When I first attacked the driveway I was eager and ready for action like the British Expeditionary Forces in 1939 and when it bested me it was like Dunkirk. The second round, surrounded by ice, more snow coming down, short on patience and aleve running out I couldn't help but think of the 101st at Bastogne. Now after a third day having my butt kicked by this never ending snow and ice, I'm starting to feel like Vichy France. Ready to give in and collaborate. Ours is a generation without...

  6. It'll take some time, but I'll get Carter loving the pool. Tonight started with tears and ended with shivering and cyanosis, but the middle went pretty well.

  7. Carter so rarely cuddles these days.

  8. WOD 01/04/2014: FT Shovel/pick-axe ~1'5" packed ice and snow in a 10x15' area. Thank god it warmed up today. Only a side walk, front steps and the whole back three quarters of my driveway left.

  9. Needed: A few able bodied men and women with pickaxes to help me open my driveway back up after being gone 10 days. Solid ice can't get the car in. Matthew Davey? Chris Smith? Up for thankless backbreaking work? I offer snacks and drinks. Will also hire desperate college/university students. Seriously, solid foot of ice.

  10. Ontario is a seemless coverage system where regardless of the municipal boundaries the closest Ambulance must be assigned to the call. Dispatch centres share calls where they are close to geographic boundaries to find the closest vehicle. If we're doing a transfer out of our region we must book on with the local Central Ambulance Communication Centre (CACC) as we move through their area and are responsible to service a call we come across or are assigned to the same as if we were in our own area. Of course none of this applies to the Private IFT services; they're legally not Ambulances, don't fall under our legislation, aren't staffed by medics and cannot service calls on an emergency basis. In the event of a medical emergency during a transfer they must pull over and call 911. We'll sometimes see these trucks as first on scene as good Samaritans. Granted I've had the odd run in with an instructor during CME who didn't agree with me, but good education should not only strive to have the latest information but should be responsive to debate. You don't build good clinical thinkers when you shut down students due to your position and ego. There is a place for an instructor to have authority based on their qualifications and experience but that's a starting point not the be all and end all. Relying too much on that authority is a red flag for poor teaching. My pet peeve is when ED leaves my patients on boards unnecessarily after we arrive. The boards place is to extricate, once they're at the Hospital we need to lose it but I'm not in a position to remove what is now their patient.
  11. I was prepared to read that the patient was homeless or otherwise disenfranchised, history of psych and/or substance abuse who was a frequent visitor to ED. Not because it excuses the behaviour but because I understand where that callousness and complacency can come from. I was surprised to find a pt. with such a significant history. I don't understand the decisions and multiple opportunities for someone to intervene at multiple levels of care and how they were all missed. Speaks to a potentially sick organizational culture where one clinician can have this patient escorted out for lack of cooperation and multiple other providers can witness it, have misgivings and not feel comfortable to speak up.
  12. The opening theme to Disney's "Robin Hood" (the animal one) is song from the hamster dance.

  13. Parade boots should be banned as a form of torture. Feet so incredibly sore after the OAPC Gala AND I'm just getting home now. Still a great showing by the York EMS Honour Guard tonight!

  14. Transfer to Midland at 1am, heading back to base and BAM something flies off a truck in front of us and smashes into the windshield. Now a truck swap at 430. FMAL!

  15. Peter Dinklage on Sesame Street this morning playing Simon Says.

  16. So Julia doesn't like Mystery Science Theatre 3000; and we'd made so much progress in her nerd conversion. ;)

  17. GPS went crazy during my run. Apparently I ran 7k in 15 mins.

  18. Oscar Tango tomorrow, King City RRU.

  19. It's a race to get Carter liking good music before the Wiggles and the like take over his little brain. So after Sesame Street the TV goes off and the music on.

  20. 30 Rock, like Arrested Development gets funnier with each rewatch!

  21. Had an appliance guy look at our oven today. Essentially told that our oven was too dirty and that all the crap in there was igniting causing the smoke issue and shutting itself off. So I scrubbed the oven today. Low and behold its not meant to be black on the inside.

  22. Got a very nice B-day wish from Terry Chomski at work. Well, he called about my driver's license I forgot to renew, but still. (Thankfully I'm off today.)

  23. This day has been so slow I've been tossing the "Q" word around just for fun. Thank god for Netflix.

  24. So Carter like Thomas the Tank Engine. That's fine. We're not going to go overboard on the toys or anything. But I can't abide the new animated version over the old model ones.

  25. Oscar Tango tomorrow in Cane, 0700.
