  1. I've got to be blunt. Work on your spelling especially before you start messing with any medications. You need to write and spell well for any patient care report.

It is also sad that your instructor is a bad speller as that does not set a good example.

Are you taking your program at a college or a technical school?

Good luck to you and do work on your writing. You are allowed to use the spell check. You can also use Microsoft WORD on a computer to improve your spelling by watching the corrections. These forums are also an excellent way to improve your spelling and writing even if they may not always be good for much else at times.

its a school that this guy built from scratch it has a 20% higher first time passage rate then any school in the country hes a LT of the FD in charge of teaching something like 450 guys and then us a year for the FD

  2. Crazy! I am taking math and A&P next month... Lets see how much I have forgotten lol whistle.gif

Good luck, I wish you the best!

    lol thanks :)

good luck to you in your math class and A&P thankfuly our program has a pretty decent A&P built in but probly also the reason they have a 20% higher first time passage rate then the rest of the country

  3. Nerves? How do you think you're going to do? Is the class big?

the class is AWSOME im gonna do good but there is math alot of math because of state protocols have to know drip rates and dosage amounts yes even at b :/ so im a little worried about that. The class size was registered for 57 but 11 didn't show dont know why but we will see :) o and the teacher is shitty speller like me yay go bad spellers :D

also learned that we can push more drugs then on the national lvl including drawn vials of adrenaline with out Medical control

  4. What is one goal that you have for the upcoming new year?

I dont believe in making New Years Resolutions cause most the time they get broken I always set a goal for the year.

Complete b school in the top 10th percentile out of 50 students

  5. Meh... that's just Acadian's in-house shake n' bake school. Certainly better than some, but nowhere near the standards I would aspire to. Their job is not to educate the future generation. It's just to keep a ready pool of unemployed rookie medics who are ready and willing to work for peanuts, because the last batch already got tired of it and left. You'll get great reviews from n00bs, but then again, all n00bs think their school was teh aw3some. Most who have been around for awhile though seem to feel the education was inadequate, with a heavy emphasis on monkey skills and meaningless nonsense.

So what do you recommend i do. I'm already locked into the EMT-B course I'm taking.\

Where would you recommend I go from here.

  6. My info may be outdated or mistaken, but it is my impression that there simply aren't many paramedic level services in RI. They're into half-steps there, because they don't need real paramedics. I think the chances of this guy finding an ALS EMS job are slim to none.

Your best bet is to go to wherever it is you plan to go, and then attend EMT through Paramedic school straight through without a break. Although, you should get your college foundational courses done before attempting either one of them. And do NOT move anywhere until you have absolutely confirmed, beyond any doubt whatsoever, that there are a LOT of jobs for n00b EMTs and medics in EMS (real EMS, not transfer driving) there. Texas has more opportunity than most, in that respect. But it's still pretty slim pickins in most metro areas, where firemen do all the sexy work.

What school are you looking at here?

its called the National EMS academy they just opened up shop in Austin tx

tell me what you think i apped for some info but nothing got sent back yet

  7. Unwanted touching, or in his case groping, is sexual assault. Because his bosses did not have the balls to sack him, he thought he could get away with anything. Maybe now his bosses should face the music as well. Ask Mr & Mrs Joe Public what their opinion is, if they cant properly administer this sort of behaviour, how can they administer a public service?

so its not a good pick up line to say your a trained medical professional and then ask to give her a breast exam!!! lol jk but on a serious note the guy should of been fired along time ago hes a disgrace to the job and to his company

  8. ewww but if u work out when waiting for your next call then u have to worry about being a sweaty mess and stinky before you pickup your next pt and u might not get a chance to shower

I guess there is NO hope at dignity at all working on an ambulance with someone ALL THE TIME huh. There will be farting... *sighconfused.gif lol

good thing ur not stuck with me then :|

  9. Report the post you want deleted and give an explination why and it will be removed by a moderator.

Also, this is my watch. Not actual picture because my camera is broke, but looks just like it.

o i just wanted to delte the reply not the whole thing lol

  10. You will be at least TWICE as good an EMT with A&P ahead of time as you would have been without it. AT LEAST TWICE as good!

You do not get the same exponential benefit by taking it after the fact.

Taking an EMT course without the basics first is like building a house without pouring the foundation first. Even if you go back and do it later, it is never as good as if you had done it right the first time.

way to kill my confidence :(

  11. Reading your thread is what made me ask.. :) But I have a tendency to try and do it all at once. I am trying to be smart about this, and dont want to waste time, or overwhelm myself...

yeah i wish i found these places befor i signed up for my classes im pretty much going into this blind lol but if u have the chance to take the A&P do it i would will help u in emtb forsure

  12. I have seen on here in a few posts how important A & P classes are for Paramedic classes. I have lots of time on my hands between now, and when I start my EMT-B classes. The local adult ed offers an 8 week basic A & P class for $89.00 (text book $60). Would that be something smart to take prior to EMT / will it help there? Or, is it too soon to worry about it? Its offered in March, ends in May and is about 2 miles down the road. Part of me is thinking that is a great jump ahead of everyone else. But, another wonders if its overkill for EMT class and something to not even worry about, yet...

from what ive been told yes

  13. What do you mean by "get my hands dirty"? You mean experience or blood and guts?

Experience will come with time. If you work with a busy service, experience comes sooner than later. If you work with a busy 911 service, you could have the blood, guts, glory, and experience.

It just depends on where you work. If you plan to stay in a rural area, you'll get some good experience but again, how busy is this service?

    Good luck to ya!

i mean i want to put the skills and education i got in school to use instead of wasting my education :) and i want tons of experience from trained and excellent medics. as for where i live i dont even hear the scanner go off that much if at most 10-20 times a day for the entire metro area i hear more radio checks then i do dispatch calls lol so when i get my b im going to save up so money and move to a much more busy state and take the transfer test or what ever i need to change my license to a different state ( i heard of a nice school in texas i would like to apply to)for medic training

  14. How do u all feel about the show trauma?

personally i love it tho it may not portray medic jobs very well i mean its not like they see that many MCI's in one week but i mean the show is still good

how do u all feel about it

  15. My boyfriend has a gshock that does elevation (good for CO where we live), temperature, and the time stuff. He likes it. Personally it is big and clunky for my taste but he's a guy so I guess it is more acceptable for him.

yes we sure do love big and clunky lol yeah thats nice if i planed on going climbing wich i dont plan on anytime soon but the one i am getting is mudresistant so maybe it will keep out the blood 2lol

  16. so heres the watch i think im going to get

  17. Well start saving your pennies NOW maybe by the time you get to the burn out point due to low pay of the EMS worker you might have saved up half it..

I agree nice watch but way to pricey. Your check list looks good so far mario, The bands as you can tell we dont agree on so looks like you are on your own on that one!

But If you get a good leather band you can wipe them down with alcholol preps or peroxide. But good luck on your hunt for the perfect watch.

hmm well now i have a strap :) so now i just need to find that watch heheh

  18. I apologize in advance, I know nothing of RI's systems or their structure, so I can't point you in a decent direction as I know absolutely no one from that area. Sorry. However, as I said, rural typically will give you your best experience and you will have alot less of your paragod mentality (from my experience) than in urban. That being said, urban has it's own challenges and you'll just have to give both a try and see what fits better for you. One isn't better than the other, but that being said, after working urban for a year, I RAN back to rural because I am used to doing everything on the fly and doing very little other than the absolute musts on scene because you were so far out. Also, some of the best teachers I came across were rural medics because they did the job because they truly loved it. On the flip side though, sometimes you see crappy providers because call volume is low, generally low acuity, but when it's bad it gets bad quick and very little safety cushion. Can be a major pucker factor for experienced provider, much less a new certed basic. But urban you'll likely be paired with a medic - so greater chance for paragod mentality, but you'll likely find better skill maintenance due to frequency of calls, and there is definitely a security blanket for a new person knowing the hospital isn't that far away. Take care, enjoy and have fun !

well thank you very much for your feedback and i will for sure give both a try
