  1. Crotch is just as much of a racist as the top member of the KKK.
  2. Very well said Ruff. Being a white female I guess that means I'm automatically a racist too. After all, who would be stupid enough to believe in such a concept as 'best person for the job regardless of color'? That's pretty darn silly. I imagine Crotch would rather have someone of similar color taking care of his mother even if they happened to be much less qualified than a white person. How is it NOT racism when someone gets picked because of their color, even though they scored levels well below that of their counter-colored peers? IT GOES BOTH WAYS. But then, ignorance is bliss isn't it? I too will turn in my white sheet, however I don't know what I'll cover my mattress with ...
  3. Haha, squint you're probably right along with the last person or two who said this. I think this peach whatever is missing out on the big picture. What they obviously don't realize is that protocols can differ from state to state and country to country. I know what my protocols are and how I would treat. This whole phishing for information in a lawsuit is wasting everyone's time, including yours peachypoo. Also, I can't understand half of what you're saying. If you've been around so many EMS people in the last few years, why not just ask them instead? I'm thinking you're not actually in the field yourself, as you'd know to give more information and probably wouldn't have so horribly mislabelled the terms that you did. From your initial post, nobody in their right mind should or would give ANY drug with that kind of lack of information.
  4. Proximal = Toward the attached end of a limb or the origin of a structure. Distal = Away from the attached end of a limb or the origin of a structure. Inferior = Pertaining to a position near the tail end of the long axis of the body. Superior = Refers to the head or upper body regions. (eg.) The navel is inferior to the chin. The head is superior to the abdomen. The elbow is proximal to the wrist. The knee is distal to the thigh. Does this help a bit?
  5. Working rural a couple of years back, it's 4am and we're on our way back from a transfer into the city. The po-po's pulled us over lights and sirens to see if we wanted to go for breakfast. Of course we gave chase a little just for S's & G's
  6. Absolutely. EMT's "technically" cannot squirt the drug without the nod of the paramedic. Edmonton has been very forward with its training of EMT's on how to recognize such events. And once one has been involved in a few ALS-managed chest pains or a VHR or two, it only gets easier for EMT's to recognize and help manage.
  7. I really don't care what you've done or haven't done for whatever reasons you say you have ... I honestly don't give a crap. I guess you found yourself about as funny as that <enter foul language here> comedian on Fox hey? Take your own advice and grow up Or perhaps, just think before you speak. Fortunately, Aaron is a rare breed of ignorance. Celtic, if I can help you with information at all let me know, as I have a couple of EMT friends in the Yukon.
  8. Hey, if EMT's are giving nitro then we should be allowed to interpret 12 leads and base our tx on that. I think it's stupid to allow one to administer a drug such as nitro without a 12 done first. It's in the ACoP scope for an EMT here, however several medical directors don't allow EMT's in their services to admin it and for good reason. That was the reason for the "shot" as you so call it. I'm not sure what YOUR experience in EMS is, but being in the midst of this provincial transition I can tell you that Alberta is now in a downward spiral with EMS. Undertaking a huge task such as funding for such a service with a soon-after announced multi-billion dollar deficit? They saw it coming all along and we should have too ... unfortunately not a thing we could have done as the "powers that be" seem to think they're doing something fantastic and won't listen to anyone but themselves. What will they start cutting back on? Public sector jobs ... they'll put even more strain on the already taxed health care system which apparently now EMS is such a 'valuable' part of. Layoffs, wage freezes (already have seen wage rollbacks), who knows what else ...
  9. Well then, let's hope he's having an RVI over there instead of Edmonton. (Many of you understand why). Edmonton EMS employees got a $5 Tim Horton's gift card ... Calgary EMS got tins of cookies ... the superboard got a nice huge raise. I was so insulted by my "gift" that I gave it away. Don't patronize myself and my co-workers telling us how "special" we are by some freaking cup of coffee. Why can't some of that huge raise go towards front line staff instead of people getting fatter sitting behind a desk, making decisions that will ultimately affect THEIR care as well? Oh, but of course ... seeing as how this is a jump towards privatization, THEY'LL be able to afford it. Sadly, still no ALS as if the province freezes the wages of EMT's, nobody will be able to afford inflation AND school. Medics will be leaving the profession or retiring (although no supplemental pension anymore because a few idiots think that HSAA is where it's at for EMT's and paramedics, instead of letting in a 5th bargaining unit or allowing people to stay with CUPE and 'growing' that union). I guess "representation by the people for the people" is out of the question in Alberta. Talk about regression! Yeesh ... get used to the 'EMS dark ages' people. Or should we call it "Goudreau-ism", where only the rich survive?
  10. Wow Aaron, that goes to show just how incredibly uneducated and ignorant you are. I negate to say typical American because fortunately most are good people and are not at all like you. I have many friends and close family members living in the US and everyone has their quirks, however nobody says things that unintelligent. Anyhow, as for crossing borders from a US system into Alberta, it has been done as my large and urban ALS service has one EMT-P that I know of who was a paramedic in northern California, and another who was a paramedic both civilian and military in Israel. If it's possible, the person who asked that question will likely have to provide every book or name of that they've ever learned from, certificates, employers, etc etc. ACP I believe reviews all that and after interviews I think you can challenge the provincial exam. I would contact http://www.collegeofparamedics.org for further information. It can be done. As tniuqs said, it's probably expensive but not impossible.
