  1. I am a medical professional. Opinions of we are safety is just one of our problems in EMS.

    R/r 911

But that's just it, currently we are not a profession, and it is not an opinion if it is true about being apart of safety, at least I can state this and be right in my part of the country. I do beleive EMS is always evolving, an example is the NREMT new catagories for providers, but it will be interesting to see how the nation grasp that change. Yes EMSA was a cook book style system.

  2. Thank you for being sincere I really do appreciate it, not trying to start a war, but I did work in Tulsa for a while, and there wasn't much difference between Oklahoma and Cali except in $$$, I mean we still had protocols to follow written and directed by an MD. I also enjoy the medic aspect of my job, but there is only so much you can do out of hospital, especialy with short transport times, and as far as the FD's keeping EMS back I say it's the volly's who give there service away for free are doing just that, and the privates for being so cheap with all equipment and personel.

  3. Please get to stepping then as we need people that want to stay and make Paramedicine a real profession.

And yes calis FD ambulance drivers suck. Please use the search feature and you will find discussions with plenty of facts backing that statement up.

Not sure why Cali FD's suck, medics are medics everywhere at least in the US anyways. I am just stating the facts as to where I live this is a stepping stone job, not sure that it is going to change.

  4. Exactly. People whose only concern is their individual career, with no regard whatsoever for the profession as a whole. Selfish narcissists.

    Very well put.

What are you talking about?, I guess all of the southern Cali FD's are selfish. I tell you that my family thank me for my dedication to my career, but I got to say this is a stepping stone job at least in the part of the country I live in.

  5. ICS FAIL!

ICS does not designate an agency, or even an individual or a rank, as Command for any particular incident or type of incident. Local protocol will usually determine that, but asking what the Incident Command System says about auto accidents is a major failure to grasp ICS 100 concepts.

What are you talking about?, ICS requires specific ranks for specific assignments in the higher command post.
  6. And that's where the lack of perspective comes in. Look beyond the trade schools and 120 hr wonders in the US and you'll see systems that work. Hell look within your own country and shake the wheat from the chaff and you'll find some excellent Paramedic education programs that turn out competent, professional providers. They're just choked by a sea of mediocre shit training.

Examples of proper education for EMS.

    Ontario, Canada

Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) - BLS 2 yrs of education

Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) - ALS 1 further year of education

Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) - ALS 2 further years of education (Air or Land CCTU only)

    Alberta, Canada

    PCP - 1 yr education

    ACP - 2 yrs education

Other provinces similar variations on the above, but I'm less familiar with their standards. Refer to the Paramedic Association of Canada's National Occupational Competency Profile for more info.

    Australia

Bachelor of Paramedic Science - 3 year university degree

    Great Britain

Couldn't find non-wiki info; Degreed education

So yes if you continue to accept unacceptable levels of education EMS will never be more than a stepping stone. But if you look outside your own backyard (or look closely at where EMS works within your own country) you'll find that EMS is a very different profession than you realized with a great deal of potential. It just needs to stop being held back by those within it. I won't argue this point much further as a quick search of the forums will find the many equine carcasses of battles long past. I encourage you to read at least one of them and see what you can learn.

Thanx for the heads I will search the fourms, but the original thread was posted as a financial issue and thats what I was getting at. As far as all these high education programs that's cool and all but I don't think people are going to go to school all that time just to find out that in some parts of the country people are still going to give there service away for free. I live work in southern Cali and unless Iam wrong or can't see into the future EMS will always be part of the fire service, so with that it is very well a stepping stone job when you can't make a living in the private world.
  7. I guess there are some parts of the country were this is some concern, as for me I work for an FD in southern cali so we get PD or SO on every call along with a type 1 engine and ambulance on every call, so I guess the tax payers spot me for my safety, haven't gotten into any real dangerous situations yet. Don't need a gun either.
