Yet you wonder why there are no elite medics in FL.
No there all in LA being heros.
-
can anyone say Redneck cops or AAA with a gun, I hope this medic sues them to high hell and gets alot of $$$$$.
-
Nice to see you are promoting AMR for a change.
Hey we all got to get are start somewhere, AMR is not such a place to start as a medic I just wouldn't want spend my whole career there.
This movie looks pretty decent from the trailers Ive seen, but too bad there wasn't a national documentry to show ems all around the nation as fars as education, recruitment, private, fire etc etc.
-
too old is when you die on the job, and not get to the call in the firt place.
-
not sure of the link, but I found it on emsnetwork.org
-
I thaught I put this on ed/train, but it is about a socumentry on Alameda county ems. Is anyone going to go see this movie?

Funny I work in 911 make good money and benefits with 911 and actually have guidelines that allow me to practice medicine rather than being an over paid taxi driver like californification has. And with californifications financial situation I think you bums free ride on the tax payers shoulders is about to end.
I bet you are "funny" steers and queers in texas right?, anywho why does everyone hate on LA? I mean I have a medical director just like every other medic in the US, unless there are other agencies out without any chain of command ie medical director state policies that I am not aware of? please enlighting me.

come out to southern Cali newbie and get on with a fire based ems career and make over 100 k a year, or live like a dirt bag working private ambulance and live from pay check to pay check.
Plus we have the beach, = girls in bikinis. and we have PERs "public employee retirement system" get 90 percent of your base pay at age 50.
-
newbie emt, come out to LA and you can make some serious $$$$ as a FF/emt.
-
Farooq is a long time Medic in the streets something like 17 years if I'm remembering properly, and I think he has great intentions but I don't know how i feel about injecting street culture into a Professional Medical Service.
What are you talking about "street culture", last I knew ems wasn't in a downtown corner office with a view and three piece suite.
-
Then by all means feel free to drop your card and vacate the "jobe."
I have a hard time calling a fire engine driver/pump operator a "paramedic." He may have a card (obtained to get his job as a firefighter) but I seriously doubt he's anything remotely resembling a provider of pre-hospital medicine.
Look hoodrat why would I drop my cert?, this is the easiest job in world and where else can you make a 100k without a college degree?, and with regards to the OCFA fireman he works in a department with some very high standards I am sure he earned every penny of tha 206k, again the people who give this service away for free are killing ems.

Yes and we all know what an outstanding example of EMS California is. Read the newswire for your state lately? Do you not see a problem with allowing all the individual counties and departments make up their own rules?
Just because your deparment has lower standards doesn't mean everyone else must. Why should testing standards be lowered because your department leaders don't believe their EMT(P)s can meet them? That is the real issue here isn't it? If they were to retest of your department EMT(P)s it would probably have a much larger scandal than Washington D.C.
How long have you been an EMT(P ?) and/or a FF? It just amazes me when some are supposedly in this professon and yet know so little about it.
The volunteers take the same tests as everyone else in their state. So try again to justify your point about the NR.
I think it is wonderful that every county can say what goes and what stays, but that is way above my pay grade of who and why those decisions are made, as far as low standards, I bet to say my department has some of the highest standards around, alot of people don't cut the one year probation time because they are slugs and can't hang.
About the NR my point is it is a waste of time, again I working without a NR cert as most if not all of southern Cali, we do have in-house ce's taught by RN's and MD's.
So I guess what Iam saying is in Flordia paramedics can start Iv's and give, and guess what in California we can start Iv's and give meds all without a glow in the dark patch.
-
Whine, whine, whine, what a whiny freaking profession. No wonder we remain the red-headed step children of public service, health care, department of waste removal, or whatever your company falls under.
-
so nothing to worry about, i think my cat even has a NR cert along with all of his vas.
-
Hmmmm, resources from numerous google results for salary and wages say SoCal paramedics make no more than $60,000. Try again!
Well, with overtime, of course and maxed out base salaries. Infact there is a huge article about OCFA one engineer/paramedic made 206 k last year, and probably has no NR cert.
-
but on this side of the country, we can actually function as a medic as paramedicine is meant to be practiced.
What side is this? last I knew all medics had a medical director, unless thing have changed, only differnce is that some of us make over 100k a year.
-
To the op, in my opinion the NR is the biggest scam in the world, thank god I don't need to have a glow in the dark patch to alllow me to do my job, no one in my department has a NR cert except the new medics who just got out of school, ems does not need another organization to increase standards, I said it once and I'll say it again this is a stepping stone jobe, not a career at least where I come from, but that is just what I see year to year, and nothing has changed.

Thanks Tskstorm
Although some countries allow age discrimination in certain circumstances, this case is definitely not one of them. You don't even know what caused her death. Perhaps it was a genetic heart defect heretofore undiagnosed and she could have dropped dead at any time, even when she was 25. Age does not cause people to die. Her age had no relevance to her death.
The CPAT has nothing to do with age. Do you even know what that stands for? It's not Can't Permit Aged Toiling? If an individual is 60 years old and passes a CPAT, does he not get the job because he's too old for your tastes?
Don't be hater "hommie", look where I come from every year I must pass a wellnes progam which consist of blood work, x-rays strength test, the works, I am just saying you can't have some one die on the job and wonder why if there should be any concern on when to not let someone work in this field any longer., yeah I know the CPAT is not an age, thing but more or less a weight thing, the better in shape you are then better passing score you get and that copuld be the differnce of getting hire with a nice retirement or not.
-
I hope the IAFF steps in and give it good to this crazy doc.
-
I don't follow, so are you saying the emt's and medics caused your fathers death, or somthing else?
-
I would love to see AAS degrees as the standard; however, I fear it simply will not happen.
Take care,
chbare.
-
to the op you refer to filling tubes, are you talking about drawing labs?, and why would snyone drw blood?, do you you guys have some sort of lab in the back of you ambulance?
-
stupid pigs.
-
Who needs all that CME, recerting, and standardized qualification of competency.
My point, the job is not going to change.
