  1. Yeah, and here I have to have two of those freaking things ready to go in a town of 900 people....sigh.
  2. Most services will require you to submit a driver abstract which would include a list of traffic violations and possibly insurance damages you are responsible for. A speeding ticket here or there or the minor fender bender are typically overlooked. What is more important is if the potential employer can determine that you regret the violations or not.
  3. Summer vacation or winter? Gotta be in the U.S.? Cuba has great all inclusive resorts in the area of $1500/wk per person. Or, you could come up here and I'll take you snowmobiling through a forest, Ice Fishing, Ice Diving, tour a potash mine, Skiing and snowboarding, do some cultural tours, or any number of other things....maybe even tour the local ambulance base.
  4. I've only heard the term tranny used as a self descriptor for a preoperative individual prior to gender reassignment. A transvestite/crossdresser is either gay or straight and wears the clothing of the opposite gender. In my experience, a transgender would be quite offended if a cross dresser were to be referred to as such.
  5. Do skills really atrophy though? Are there any studies to prove that infrequent intubations or IV starts lead to a high failure rate? I mean I work in a place where I might do 3 or 4 tubes a year and 25 - 30 IV starts. In 20 years as a medic I've never failed an intubation and I believe my IV success rate is on par with my urban counterparts. Am I an anomaly? Shut up Ben, that's rhetorical.
  6. www.paramediconnect.com It's a newer site that has something like this in the works, it's supposed to be a free service that includes reminders of upcoming expiry. Send them an e-mail and ask when it'll be up and running if it isn't yet.
  7. Hi There, welcome to the city, feel free to join into any conversation which interests you, or start one of your own.
  8. I don't get it really. Why do we need to stop compressions to intubate? I mean, I used it stop them years ago but then I thought..."Hey, why am I stopping when I can still see all my landmarks?" so I decided to give it a go. Since then I've only stopped compressions a couple of times, and only for about 3 - 5 seconds to pass the tube. I still intubate farther down the algorythm than the old days, but stopping CPR to do it just isn't always a requirement.
  9. Sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the organisation, but kudos for deciding to stick it out and deal with the issues rather than run to the school and whine for a new preceptor or practicum site. From your post I can glean that the sour mood of the staff there has nothing to do with you but with their work environment. All I can suggest to you is to do exactly what you're doing and remember, you don't work there. Don't let them drag you into their politics. Above all, keep in mind that your presence there is temporary, you will pay your dues and escape the place once school is complete to move on to a better place....kinda like purgatory.

  24. Lets see here now, Wilson has made three posts on this forum, each one of them attacking another forum member and nothing constructive to add to the conversation....time for the temporary Time Out stick. You know nothing about the people who contribute to this forum, you'd best not make ASSumptions. If you're an example of the fine military leadership in the trenches for the United States, it's no wonder why it is getting the undeserved reputation it is.
