  1. Even if it is set to private, I would still be extremely cautious about posting anything that you would not want a prospective employer to see. That includes pictures AND posts. Nothing that's on the internet is guaranteed to be private and it would be awful to lose a potential job because you posted "I drank so much Jack and Coke last night that I barfed on my shoes!" Not saying you would post that - I'm just saying.

As for the bad credit thing - I hear you. I HATE it that bad credit could keep someone from getting a job when the reality is, people are out of work for months, even years, now - and without an income, of course your credit will be bad!

I am relatively careful, but I have an... odd sense of humor, so that's really the reason it's set to private. Some people don't appreciate it :) Besides, most photos you'll find with me tagged in them are actually ones I took, I never was much for hte partying aspect at all

  2. With your age and no experience (especially living in NYC if I saw your other post correctly) vollie is just about your only option. You could try to get on with a hospital as a tech (not just ER, but look at floor techs as well), but they usually also want experience. Sorry man, hope you get something. But the market for EMT-Bs is just oversaturated.

  3. I know In EMS you need some kind of footwear that protects your feet, but is there anything type of special shoe or boot that isn't "boots" if that makes sense. I'm not really the kinda guy who would be wearing boots... or even really want to.. (unless I need to).. So I'm just wondering if there is maybe like low cut boots you could wear or like an ankle type boot... something not so big.

    Something like these?

  4. I have a suggestion....Get a LITTMANN stethoscope because of the high quality parts they are built with.

Medical Uniform Stores have them as well as http://allheart.com

If you decide to work as an EMT, some depts require the Cardiology 3 or the Master Cardiology.

Not to start an argument, but I have to call BS on that last part. Please show me one dept or agency that requires their staff to have a scope like that. I have been applying all over the US lately and not seen a thing like that at all.

  5. JT and Richard,

Thanks for the info. The voulenteer FD in town is 'hiring' in the winter, and has my app. You're right, unpaid but getting my name out (while doing nice things for the community) is the plan.

It's funny that you bring up CO, I have a pal out there, and I'm looking into getting CO reciprocity.

Thanks! Keep the good ideas coming!

As a medic you'll have an easier time than I've had looking for work up there :P Good luck either way man!

  6. Depends. When I worked on an ambulance it was:

Shears, pens, penlight, pocket knife, wallet, gloves, phone (and at the time an iTouch with Epocrates). In my pack was a field guide, laptop, books, Zune, water, snacks, and a few other things.

When I worked at the hospital:

Shears, pens, penlight, Phone. In my pack was a Kindle, laptop, water, field guide (it just kinda lives in my bag), text books, knife, spare magazine for my pistol (which lived in the truck while I was in the hospital).

  7. Well maybe moving grr... Failed one try at Acadians PAT today. The damn thing is more intense than any PAT I've ever seen for a private service. My HR jumped too high for their liking. The Phys Therapist doing the test told me it most likely was cause my body is dehydrated and exhausted. I'm gonna guzzle water and rest today. Retest is at 1030 tomorrow morning before I leave town.

Just about the way my luck goes...
