  1. the second my infant daughter finally gets to sleep after throwing a 45 min fit is usually when my pager goes off
  2. When someone's radio report sizing up a scene literally says "yeah we got a pickumup truck upside down in the ditch" When your county has roads like "boo boo ln" and "dam way dr" seriously, Menard County Illinois
  3. The small provider i work for usually ends up with a lot of chest pain, difficulty breathing, or my personal favorite "patient check" which in the past has ended up being anything from someone wanting their bp checked to a man who was in respiratory arrest on his kitchen floor.
  4. [/font:878f414047] I work for a small ambulance provider in central Illinois. As of yet we are only provided with a blue jacket that is bloodborn pathogen resistant and waterproof but provides not much protection otherwise. Recently we had an accident where an elderly male had rolled his vehicle leaving it lying on the drivers side with him trapped and his arm stuck under the vehicle. Myself being the youngest Paramedic on duty drew the straw of getting to crawl into the vehicle to join the police officer/first responder who was holding cspine. Due to the close quarters and my size i cant imagine myself fitting in that vehicle in full turnout gear, however some form of jacket and pants that would be tougher than my ems duty pants and shirt would be greatly appreciated. One thing i can say for turnout gear however is that it is very nice during extrication during winter weather.
  5. [/font:bd4e52b619] yeah i found out for sure today that it is AMR that is moving to Springfield, someone from SAA said that AMR reps were at their company earlier this week.
  6. [/font:ade0d2cce8] I work in Springfield as a Paramedic and its about like anywhere else most places only want to hire paramedics. i know the company i work for called America usually doesn't hire very many basics at all. Lifestar and SAA do though. I also heard the rumor that AMT was looking at Springfield, but lately the rumor is that its AMR that is interested in a Springfield agency that i wont name. All i can say is though that if you have a choice go somewhere that has a good EMS system SAMIC sucks. I got my basic training under the Peoria system and it was alot better. Samic is stuck in the dark ages, nothing is worse than transporting a severe respiratory distress patient that needs intubated and you cant do anything about it because you don't carry anything that will suppress their gag reflex.
