  1. WOW!!!! We are not even safe in our own buildings anymore. What is the next step for all EMS providers? Do we start carrying pepper spray or stun guns? Next we will have to start using door codes to get out of the bay for emergency calls, too.
  2. Sad to hear that we have lost another FF to a LODD. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, co-workers, and the fire department.
  3. it depends on what i am faced with at the time.
  4. never know where you might find an amr truck!!!!
  5. Does not matter how she got here, but that she is alive and holding strong for now. Prayers to the baby.
  6. first i would like to slap the hell out of the mom to get her to shut up so i could get what i needed and then take things from there. mom out of control is not going to be able to give you information, but one that has calmed down and slapped backed to earth will.
  7. knowing that you have the power to save a life is a wonderful thing. the only thing that hurts is the burnout the some of us get.. you need to know the signs and step back and take that rest. dont ever give it up never know when you will need it.
  8. it is always sad to hear of someone passing away. my thoughts and prayers go out to the families.
  9. The Center is here in Pittsburgh and is the best the world. People from all over come here for paramedic training. It is in a building on the Pitt campus. They help you with everything you need. Like, your er time, or time, truck time, classes, uniforms, and whatever else you might need. you are just going to have to call them and find out when the next class is. The Center does all that you need, not just paramedic classes. They provide all the EMS classes. Basic, Paramedic, EVOC, CPR, First Responder, PRN, Pre hospital Doctors, you name it they have it. Good Luck with your search.
  10. It sounded like the medic is just after some quick money. Medic should just leave them alone and have the company pay for his time off and medic bills for the fall.
  11. Just got done reading this story and all I have to say is "WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS COMPANY THINKING WHEN THEY HIRED HIM BACK?" This guy should have never have passed his cert test in the first place. That is one bad medic. You are to check vitals every fifteen minutes and the monitor every few minutes, if he would have done that she would still be alive. When we transport vent patient's we alway check the pulse ox to make sure the o2 levels are good, if they are not we check the o2 lines and the vent itself to see if something happened. The company should pay for what they did. It is just as much their fault as it is his. Looking at the truck in the picture. WHERE ARE THE LIGHTS ON IT? The company should just close its doors and get out of the business. As for the emt-b, she should not be allowed on a truck until she can prove she knows what she is doing, but taking the emt-b class over again and taking the cert test again, too. That is just how I feel about this. I just don't get why people are like that. As for letting a family member ride in the front seat, Daughter should have spoke up and she would have been told that she could. I let family members ride all the time in my truck with me. I 'm getting down from my soap box now. I would like to hear more from y'all about this. Things like this happen everyday and this is the one that made the news.
  12. I bought State one for my car and hoping to get star of life on it too. I have state and star of life on my dirt bikes with an emergency jump kit i take with me everywhere I go. Never know when it is going to come in handy. and yes i have gotten out of tickets with the sticker in the window.
  13. WOW! I'm a mom and I would never do that to my own children. There is this thing called a voice. Use it to say something. She needs to have the children taken off of her and not given back. Tie her tubes and remove everything. She just makes me sick and gives us good moms a bad name.
  14. not even our city medic are making that much in a year. What drug were they smoking when they wrote this cantract up? Like to have some. if they find anyone to take that it will be a miracle. They just screwed themselves over big time.
  15. My prayers are with his family at this time. May God keep you close and teach us on this parasite.
  16. I have been doing this for 14 years and I know how it feels to get a PMH, CC, and meds and have it not matter. Wish it did. Working for a private company, I have been dispatched to a scene for a "BLS" call with on other crew(s) and have it turn into an "ALS" call and have to wait for them. but we never have fire onscene for any of our calls unless it is an MVA and then we do. This is a good topic for discussion. Glad someone brought it up. Would like to hear what other states and companies have to say on this. p.s. I'm from Pittsburgh, PA.
  17. Nope it sure doesn't make a big difference. in some cases you only get there 45 seconds faster than you would have going the regular speed. We most drivers go "BALLS TO THE WALLS", they don't care about anyone else out there. Those are the ones that are going to kill someone or kill themselves. I know I have done it, but i have slowed my speed down. I'm not out here trying to kill me or my partner, or my patient. They only thing that those lights and sirens do is get your butt through the red lights legally and get people to pull over so you can get by. LET THE BASHING BEGIN!!!!
  18. I read through some of the comments made on this subject. I agree with some and not with the others. Been in EMS for 14 years and I am still learning some of the ALS stuff. But I do know when a paramedic is not using his BLS skills he/she had to learn first. There is a saying that I go by and it works. BLS BEFORE ALS!!!! ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS TO FIND OUT THE REAL PROBLEM. People are not going to tell you everything at first. You need to be nosey and keep asking questions. Sometimes the same questions over and over again to see if they will answer it the same. I have worked with EMTDON970 on many calls and we have seen this one medic do nothing for a patient that should have gone to a hosptial with light and whistles, but said no lights. I didn't ask questions then, but I did after the call. He tried to explain why he did what he did, but I pointed out the BLS side of it and he saw it mine and Don's way. But then again this medic is just lazy. I have also seen medics over treat patients, too. When in EMT school, the teacher was a medic and a very damn good one at that, she always said that it is better to over treat than to under treat. I still follow that to this day. I know people are going to and read this and post what they think, and that is ok by me. That is why I wrote this, to get people thinking and talking. Can't wait to see what they will say next. till next time.
  19. WOW! I believe that they should be trained in how to use and read the equipment properly.
  20. i know most areas have rescue trucks in their fire department. in the county that i grew up in, if a call came in about anything having to deal with a car, the fire department was dispatched to the scene along with ems. my question is why didn't family just pick up the phone and call to ask for help and explain what had happened instead of trying to do it themselves?
  21. we use our station numbers with the last number being different. station number is 970 our Smaller medic trucks are 975 and 980. contact our county 911 and see what numbers are not being used around your area. you are just going to have to do some research. good luck on naming your trucks.
