  1. take em.. I need new ones anyways.. two fuzzy faces.. who keep waking me up
  2. I like to "dye" things at time too.. but like grandma, maybe it's just not time to "die".. I have started CPR on a pulseless, apneic patient on the floor.. not in the ER.. who ended up walking out two weeks later, with cognitive function. I think this particular patient was glad I was there since there weren't enough folks around on that floor who knew GOOD CPR and ACLS skills. As a matter of fact I was thankful the RT's knew the drill too because they were the only other two folks who actually jumped in to do the job effectively. No I won't stop doing CPR on patients. Not all are ready to die. <<walks away thinking someone has been watching too much "Bringing out the Dead".... [-X

  9. take it.. I love em.. one slightly irritable teenager
  10. Wow! How friggin scarey.. glad I have never gotten that mentality! When it's time for someone to go that will happen when it's their time.. it's not my decision. It's even worse to know that I know some nurses who would think like that...{{SHUDDER}} Most hospitals I've worked at have the drugs that you are discussing either locked in the Pixus or otherwise have to be obtained from the pharmacy. This does lead to a paper trail. The pharmacies are starting to check every chart, every day for un-prescribed medications being given, including normal saline at some hospitals. I've gotten pretty good at making sure the doctors write their verbal orders down or sign off on them before the patient is transfered, discharged, or otherwise dispo'd. I worked too hard to get my license to lose it because of someone else. I've also signed off on wasting narcotics for the medics when they give partial doses... I like that it covers their butts and I watch them waste the narcotics, covering mine. :bootyshake: LB
  11. Ace of Base... I saw the sign
  12. Oh I just love this type of reaction from the ones who treat. I caught a fellow nurse doing it to a patient the other night. The patient has a "Tylenol" allergy. He actually tried to give her Vicodin. She refused because it has "acetaminophen" in it. I asked her what her reaction was to the Tylenol and she said her throat swells shut. Yup.. she would be a bad candidate for a lot of drugs. The last time I ended up having surgery, while I was in the ER trying to figure out what was wrong, I talked to the ER doc about pain management. I am lucky because he knows me. I discussed all the reactions I have to specific meds, such as morphine, Vicodin, etc... and he made sure that they were listed as allergies, because the reactions are true allergic reactions. I asked if Toradol was an option, but the doc said no. They tried Fentanyl on me and it didn't do squat except make it so I was dizzy.. so I told them to leave it alone.. I would deal. The US tech got pissed off that I was in so much pain, but I just told him to do the damn test and get it done and over with. :sad1: I was thrilled when two weeks after my surgery I got cleared to take Ibuprofin because I sure wasn't feeling so good with the Darvocet they had prescribed for at home. :sign11: What was interesting about the whole experience is the different reactions that the various nurses verbalized when they were talking to me and about me regarding my allergies. Those that know me know I'm as far from a "drug seeker" as possible. Those that don't figured that my extensive list proved that I was. What they don't think about is that when one has had multiple injuries and/or surgeries one has been exposed to most narcotics. Maybe there's a reason that we've found out the hard way that we can't tolerate them. Personally I like to breath, therefore I will list those that cause hives and swelling as allergies. Please remember that some of those drugs metabolize down into byproducts that can cause the same reactions, therefore someone who has an allergy to A may have been told by their doctor to never try B due to risk of reactions. Sulfa drug allergies are significant for this. Celebrex doesn't cause any highs, but in folks who are allergic to sulfonamides this drug could be deadly. :violent2:
  13. Doc.. I have been told that those with multiple allergies can also have inflammatory conditions they may not be diagnosed with, such as lupus and such. I happen to be one of those who is allergic to multiple substances, most after I had a kid. When my last doc saw what I was allergic to he ordered several tests to rule out lupus and other inflammatory conditions. My ESR came back very elevated as well as a few other factors. Being a guinea pig to treat migraines was part of how I learned I was allergic to several medicines.. the hard way. Bleh... :sad1:
  14. :occasion1: Hope the day was great Mike... Happy Belated-Birthday!
  15. :occasion4: How many candles on that one? Enough to set the house on fire? Should we have the fire extinguisher available?
  16. So after talking to a variety of folks, many who know my family and the ENTIRE situation, I have made the decision that my son will indeed go to his grandparents. I feel that this will be in his best interests at this time. The biggest stipulation will be that he attend school and if at any time he starts to act with them like he has with me, or he gets into legal trouble up there he will immediately be returned too me. No if/ands/or buts about it. If I find out that my ex is hanging out there, the law will be notified and my son returned to me. There is a legal injunction against him being around the child. One person on here referred to the possibility of me badmouthing my ex around my child all the time. I choose not to even speak of him if I can. Instead of being a parent he chose to do drugs and ultimately got both children hooked on them. Can I call someone like that a person or a parent? I personally have trouble thinking of someone like that as even being human. Humans don't do that to children and parents even less. Just my opinion to which I am entitled.
  17. Thanks to those who've posted. I've had an oh so wonderful (very sarcastic tone intended) morning with my son im'ing me after a rather unproductive phone call talking with both him and his grandmother. He's gotten himself into a nasty mode at the moment after I pointed out a variety of my concerns to him and her. One of his IM's was "FU" spelled out of course... an IM I pointed out was "oh so mature" on his part. It's hard when you love someone despite their nasty parts. You know there's someone good in there.. but this JERK part is so prominent it's hard to see past it. My prayers are that I will figure out what needs to be done and that God helps me see where he should be and how to make it the best experience for my son. I just pray that he ends up a healthy, happy adult who contributes to our society instead of like his father. [-o<
  18. Several folks in here know I have a teenage boy who I've been having tons of trouble with. Right now I'm having to make a decision of either letting him go live with his grandparents for two years or "making" him stay down here with me. They live in Oregon, I live in so Cali for now. Right now I have full custody of him, with a stipulation in the custody orders that I maintain a residence in the current county I live in unless authorized to move elsewhere or have written permission from his father to do so. My worries about him staying with his grandparents are 1. It's has dad's parents so I am positive he will be in more contact with the worthless piece of scum. 2. His grandfather is terminally ill and I don't want to hasten his demise with the stress of a troubled teen. The benefits.. my son loves his grandmother and listens to her. She's been one of the most positive influences in both of my kids lives. Another benefit is that he would be away from the bottom feeding scum suckers who call themselves his friends. Any thoughts or advise?
  19. Must make you feel all nice and powerful... :naka:
  20. It seems that the traveling speeds on the freeways down here near Los Angeles are aprox 80-85. This is the speed where others don't ride on your butt, getting less than one car length behind you, including law enforcement officers. I've been going with the flow of traffic and been passed by highway patrol officers, no lights, no sirens etc.. who've just waved hi or thanks as they pass by when I've moved over for them. Oh.. the posted speed limit is 65 on most of these freeways, 55 on some of the highways. It's really fun to go from 80 to zip in seconds when an accident happens ahead of you at those speeds. As far as telling others about a speed trap.. nope. It's possibly more dangerous for me to do so and risk triggering someone's road rage button than to just let them get caught.
  21. I think it's AK.. he can delete posts ... and ban people.. :hiding:
  22. cause the stone is probably too big to go down the tube.. he might need to be evaluated by a specialist to see if he needs to have lithotripsy done and to see if he's got other problems going on secondary to the stone.
  23. Billy Idol.. Sweet Sixteen
  24. I was passed by an ambulance on the freeway two days ago that I seriously was watching and waiting for him to crash. I was doing 80, he passed me like I was standing still, no lights, no sirens. We both ended up taking the same exit, which T's to another exit, Freeway north, Freeway south... He ended up going north, which requires that you slow way the heck down.. to like 35 to avoid overturning. The guy was all over the lanes trying to maintain control of that ambulance. I think this is the type of driver that tends to cause the "ambulance driver" caused accidents.
  25. This is a daily part of my job. I personally view it as more effective than many of the medications I am providing to some of the patients. Would I ever touch a patient inappropriately..HELL NO! Those who do need to be terminated immediately!
