And that was an emoji - not a question mark. Gotta love technology

  2. pfft... that is funny!!!:lol:

    ya... there is no cream!

Where as it is kinda funny- due to the scenario clearly states Liquid Benadryl- Moby points out a very sad statistic:

Most GP would not have done the obvious in situation like this. If cream was used they wouldn't wash it off. If the child is running a fever of 102.5- they call 911 or rush them off to the ER with out trying Tylonal or Ibuprofen first........How many of you have griped about the calls you go on with complaints of flu like symptoms? The ones where you just want to say Chicken Noodle soup REALLY DOES make you feel better....try it next time before you call 911!!

Sometimes I wonder if the Common Sense of the World got tossed out like the Baby with the Bath water........

OK no more 3:30 AM rants....

  3. My one and only experience with the deceased was a rather bad car wreck where we had to have the fire department lift the engine off the patient, and after unwrapping her leg from the B post we pulled her out of the car and loaded her into the Ambulance awaiting the coroner. Being in an extremely Rural area we had to wait for a while for the Coroner to arrive from half the county over. Being in EMT school at the time my Preceptors quizzed me on how I felt about this experience, the death of the patient and such. I was fine, really the CSF leaking all over the back of the truck, the Gray matter smeared on the door from loading the patient- none of it phased me. Coroner finally showed and we assisted loading her into a body bag that had this pleasantly clean ORANGE smell. None of it affected me at all. Upon arriving back at base we Deconed the back of the ambulance and then cleaned up ourselves.

The kicker was when all was said and done I was hungry- and just needed a small snack. There was a bag of candy on the table filled with various kinds of left over Halloween candies. I grabbed a "Bonkers" flavor= ORANGE

Well kicker is that that candy tasted EXACTLY like the body bag had smelt and I lost it! Breakfast and Lunch both- I barely made it to the girls room in time.

To this day- I have never nor will I ever eat another Orange Bonkers- and I have shied away from orange starburst as well.............

  4. My apologies AK. As I told Incognitogirl in a PM, part of my fire and brimstone approach here is the fact that I lost a friend in this crash and partly this coincided (to the day) with a loss in my family as well. If I was out of line, I apologize for that. Grief and anger got the better of me and for that I am sorry. While I still feel issues exist that need to be addressed, I will follow a less nasty (and therefore more likely to succeed) approach from here on out on the forums. Let it be known that I have nothing against AirEvac personally and seriously hope their commitment to safety is what they say it is.

We lost three good people- including one of the best nurses I ever had the pleasure of knowing- and the best we can do to honor their memory is to learn from what happened (when we know what happened for sure) and do everything in our power- personally, collectively, professionally- to reduce the chance of it happening again. Pull together, comfort those left behind and be safe everyone.

    Thank You Punisher.

I don't think I have yet to read such a humble apology on these forums. It takes a Big person to be bold and speak out about things but it takes an even BIGGER person to apologize when needed.

So again thanks. And know this. It wasn't a lack of safety awareness that caused this crash. We are learning more and more and it will be a long time before we get answers but all things are starting to point to a rare catastrophic occurence..........but in due time the inspections will be complete and the answers will be known with out any questions at that time.

  5. This is a warning to all....

As we do on another site dedicated to flight, if anymore discussion takes place on what may have happened based on mere speculation, the thread will be closed and offending posts removed.

It is customary within the flight circle to not discuss these things until preliminary findings or even the official report comes out as a matter of respect to our fallen brothers and sisters.

Feel free to offer condolences, speak of how you feel, but anymore certification listing, thereby making me better informed than you to say what happened needs to stop.

If you wish to discuss safety issues and overhauls within HEMS, please kindly start another thread.

For once I must Stand and applaude you AK!

I work for AEL....at National Headquarters. I have experienced the pain of loosing 2 excellents crews in the last 8 mnths. We all are sickened by it to the core. One incident has NOTHING even close to do with the other! Shame on those of you who want to speculate and spew on what should be a memorance of some VERY excellent Professional Crew members. We lost a few of the BEST that ever was and EVER will be.

God Speed Sandra, Wade and Roger.

    You are missed!

AND a HEARTFELT thank YOU to those of you who kept (tried to) this thread decent- it hasnt gone unheaded...........

  6. So every one decides to label me a hater and that is fine. If I was the only one that had these complaints with just one dispatcher then yes I would think that maybe it is me. However when every crew has the same complaints then is it me? It just amazes me that if I work a shift that is not my normal car we usually always get off on time even with the same levels. As for late calls being part of the job I think I have done this long enough to know that but thanks for pointing it out. We have the same dispatcher day after day and I always try to be nice. I may have come across with an attitude and if so I am sorry for that. But to all of you that are bashing me I just want to know if any of you have every felt upset with your dispatcher and felt like venting? That was all I was doing. It was my way of blowing off steam. As for dispatchers I have several that are friends and when I twist off about my current dispatcher they have the same feelings and say they have heard these same complaints a hundred times from different crews so its not just me. I respect them and what they do, I never said I didn't. I don't mind doing my job it is why I am here and I understand posting requirements and all that. As for the coffee and doughtnuts I was kidding and trying to let you all know that I was not serious. As I said above I was venting. As for all my brothers and sisters getting down on me and calling me lazy, incompetent, etc. All I have to say is you don't know my situation so don't be so fast to accuse, I just hope I am around to return the favor when you have a beef.

OK Folks its been a while but IncognitoGirl can not remain silent any longer.....

First of all if you want to vent- VENT - don't throw mud.

    You threw mud.

Second of all, Donuts? Can we say sterotype? I bet your mental image of most dispatcher is fat overweight people, and gee I wonder why? We get Donuts crammed down our throats all the time! How about a friut basket or some veggies from that road side stand you drove past? After all we are stuck for 12 hours straight in a room (some of those rooms no bigger than a closet!) with minimal chances to stretch our legs while your out in the fresh air getting more exersize than you dare would care for some days.

I work in a large dispatch center and we have GPS tracking.....and know this: WE DON'T HAVE CONTROL OVER THE CALLS! We have policy and procedures to follow or we get Canned just as you would be canned if you didnt follow protocals. So lighten up.

Things arent always as you might assume them to be....

  8. Ah now If someone in that crowd had a permit to carry and Guns weren't banned~ That Knife wielding wild man wouldn't have killed so many people, only he would have died! Now they gonna ban the Trucks? I mean after all they don't know if the victims died of wounds from the truck or from the Knife it's self......

And as for the venison, you don't need no bow or rifle, just make it look like an accident and coupled with a darn good insurance company... your car or truck works just as well. Trust me on this one!!!

  10. Initiate rapid transport to the hospital. Did he tolerate a NPA or OPA? If so, we may need to aggressively manage the airway. Enroute, we need to obtain a 12 lead and initiate IV access. Provided his lungs are clear without any indication of failure or pulmonary edema, a fluid bolus would be indicated. Do we have a temp as well? What did his neuro and eye exam tell us? Just to clarify, his respiratory rate is 4 per minute and labored and he has stable vital signs?

    Take care,

    chbare.

Chbare is on top of this and its interesting, I just want to follow this thread and see the end results..... Chop Chop ~ Carry on!! :D

  11. I clicked no as well, and I completely agree with Spenac 100 %. Where I WOULD be Compastionate, it is not required and the job can be preformed with out it (the hand holding hugging shoulder to cry on) Where those of us ( very much like myself) that are compasionate and careing, we wouldn't think twice about holding and hugging the little scared pedi in the back of our ambulance BUT we also set ourselves up for false acusations. We must always be careful of our niceness and compasion being miscontrude..........

  12. It is nice to see good things being said about Muskogee County EMS. We are very proud of our service. I have worked at Muskogee since (ironically) since 9-11-01. Talk about a "Welcome to EMS". If there are any questions about our service, please feel free to ask. I will do my best to answer them.

Nice to meet you medic2001 we will soon (very soon possibly Sunday) be putting our Newest Helicopter Base into service at Muskogee. Looking forward to hearing from Muskogee EMS twice as often! :D

  13. Helicopter shopping is wrong, and it happens all too often. Yes we lost the crew in Northern Alabama, but weather was not a factor at all. As a matter of fact EACH and EVERY flight request we take we comm specs are required to ask 2 safety questions and our dispatch cad will not allow us to assign the flight card to a crew if they remain unanswered.

1: Has any other flight service Declined this request due to weather?

2: Is any other air craft responding to your area?

All too often when asked our callers are hesitant to answer or they do answer YES to one or both but will not give any details. At that point I call each and every flight service in the immediate area to see if it was them, why they declined and where the weather is at. Upon dispatching the crew we are required to notify the crew if another service has declined for weather. Our QA program and recorded lines are a big asset to assuring the questions get asked each and every flight. Bottom line. The flight request is up to the PIC and the med crew has the right to call 51 % if they do not feel the weather is adequate to fly.

  14. If you see the late sign of tracheal deviation, it's amazing how fast it will straighten up after you do it.

HEY HEY SCRAPPY! You always got the witty thing to say, Oh and YES the river still calls your name, see you Tuesday! 6 of us going so far........

  15. If you are feet on the street then the vest should be the least of your concerns. I believe that OSHA is an American agency but even if they were Canadian that doesn't mean that they are right.

I mean your kidding me RIGHT? Did I miss read something here? If you ARE in the street then the Vest is the LEAST of your concerns?

    HUH?
