It sure sounds like someone has a beef with fire dept. ems,maybe someone lost a private contract to a union fire dept?Lets put down fire ems and assure our private$$$$.

It must be true its in the newspaper!I have to say its mostly nonsense,less paramedics is good.Come on,who conducted the survey?Some private hosp. agency,private ambo co.WHO?????Would you want to live in a neighborhood with BLS fire engines responding to your kids or family?NO way,give me ALS AMBO"S and engines!Quick immediate ALS care is what we give to others and what we expect no less for our families!I understand $$$ is an issue in some communities and shortage of paramedics.In an urban setting high volume of calls is not a problem for ambo's or Als engines.

After herniating 3 discs,I was bad for a year but now back to lifting and work!2o years of lifting people has its toll, but so far lucky to be back at work.Getting back wasn't easy, but I admit its due to weak abs and not being in shape.Ems historically has people who disregard there own health while caring for others! Yes I admit I used to be one, struggling every day to get back in shape and strengthen my abs.

Whats the pay and benefits?

ok , I got 20 yrs!Starting pay stinks(46k) but after 5 yrs they are at68k.New guys work 87 days per year,after 5yrs 84 days ,after 15 yrs 81 days ,after 25 yrs 80 days per year!We are fire based and union, I stress union because if we were non union they wouldn't give us crap.Fireman work 24 /48 and we work the 24/72, due to a law suit in 1995, they had to pay us or change our hours!We work out of firehouses and we have preference to cross over to the fire side, every class of fireman must have 10% paramedics.Thats to maintain there ALS engines(I think we have 25 ALS engines).

No your green card ( public aid card) is not an American Express , so yes you're going to the closest hospital!Seizure meds and booze don't mix well.Change your socks when you change your underwear!

If you did 20-25 runs per day of bull crap ,you wouldn't use the ked either!Most of these people are there to sue and are full of shit!An occasional use I agree but majority I don't see.Ask any ghetto rigs out there and you'll see the same crap.

When the patient looks shitty you use whoever is available (janitor,relatives).Sometimes the fire companies are not close by!

Theres alot of equipment on the rig you rarely use,or do you use it all?Come on,be real!

I personally think the KED does more harm than good,if you need to be self rightgeous,use it!It's rarely used here because this equipment is a joke.Next I"ll here that you guys use mast pants alot too!Come on ! Yeah if you get an occasional legitimate c-spine injury you might dust the dirt off but thats not very often, most crashes are BS and you guys know that!

We get paid well in the city but most suburbs don't get crap plus they work alot more days than us!We work the 24-72 its the best,we average 84 days of 24 hour shifts on duty,even more if you have seniority

The ked is a great splint but thats about all!
