Lower back pain

I would argue that the LSB was a transfer device and not an immbolization device in this case. Since the patient was never fully immbolized, just transfered, there would be nothing to clear. Of course I would have used a breakaway instead (my company doesn't have scoops).

Excuse my ignorance, what is a breakaway?

Hey, I like the idea of a BP cuff inflated and used for comfort. Hadn't heard of that one before. That being said, I think the best response for this scenario was already posted - scoop. Transport in position of maximum comfort. I would immediately think LSB is CONTRAindicated for isolated low-back pain of previous etiology. It can't be comfortable, and would probably exacerbate discomfort.

LEt's say for argument's sake, he has a localized spinal injury in the lumbar region. What would be the point of applying a c-collar? Absolutely none.

I will advocate that for some people, the limited splinting of being strapped to a board may provide some relief although they are few and far between. For most, it is somehow trying to find a position of comfort. Usually it seems lying on their side with knees flexed and a pillow between is best.
