Recommended Posts

EMT City Members,

I'm an Advanced Care Paramedic and the EMS Coordinator of York Region's Critical Incident Stress Management Team, in Ontario, Canada.

I would like to share my new youtube film I recently posted on Youtube that concerns our profession.

Title: Trauma Porn, Traumatic Stress & The Victim Triangle

youtube channel: conversdoc channel

youtube.com/user/conversdoc

Other Films:

1- Behind the Mask: Paramedic Occupational Traumatic Stress

2- The Trauma of Loss

3- Person-Based Ethics: Human Maps

(I have no commercial Interest in these films- they are posted as public access)

If you find value in these films, please share them with: EMT, paramedic students, colleagues and front-line personnel.

In the months to come I will be creating more material on how to build professional resilience in the aftermath of a traumatic event.

Together lets assist our front-line professionals to grow resilience in the wake of a traumatic event, and at the same time improve patient safety and outcomes.

Thanks for your time

I was Initially sceptical, primarily because I have an antipathy for CISM, especially as practiced in the areas I have run. I looked at the video to find a way to eviscerate you.

The video is difficult, as it brings out into the open a subject I have always dealt with by numbing, nay even becoming a purveyor and enjoyer of trauma porn. The video is beautifully done, intelligent and edifying. It gives us a structure and names things. I found the victim triangle very helpful.

Kudos to you sir.

I have built a disconnect between my patients and I. I Think this job opens us up to what really happens in the world, that things go wrong and sometimes nothing you can do nothing, on the job or off the job. Sometimes I think about the most tragic patients (kids etc) but it is just a reaffirmation of how cruel the world is and that are really no rules.

So far the "stress" of trauma and tragic events has not effected me in any sort of detrimental way.

The video: It was interesting but too slow and too many pauses...I think to catch some drama, I would have sped it up and go to the point more quickly. I'm no Tim Burton though, thanks for sharing. I can relate to the guys who always talk about EMS/Fire/Trauma, very annoying. Some people use this job as an identity i,e, zero to hero complex.

Thanks for sharing,
