Expiration dates on meds?

Exactly why it's far cheaper and easier to simply replace what you use out of the ER. I tell them what I used, they get it from the Pyxis. The longest part is them logging into the system (fingerprint, password, done). And nobody has to use a type of box they don't want.

We could NOT exchange meds from the ER. Even if we broke the seal and gave one nitro, it had to go the Pharmacy and EVERYTHING checked. Why they always did the things the hard way? Once we took a patient in hyper-tensive crisis to another hospital. We got our supplies back from them, but our box still had to go to the resource hospital and gone through. It really sucked most of the time.

At our primary hospital we now have a Pyxis in the breakroom that is EMS specific. No more mother-may-I, no more having to wait on supervisors to go fetch it from the pharmacy... the pharmacy stocks our Pyxis, and we get to use our thumbprints to get into the Pyxis and restock what is needed on the ambulances.

Plus there's still tons of accountability as far as charting, wasting, etc.

If I was still active in the field I'd want one of those. 8)

I know you didn't. What I was saying was, it's easier, quicker, and cheaper our way.
