LTC Nurse Has Concerns About EMS Call at Work...

Nursing homes should have contracts w/ paid, transport services, to do their Non-Emergency transports. "911" Ambulances, should not be doing Non-E transports. It's a waste of resources and manpower.

I agree with you, but in many small towns 911 ambulance is all that is available. That is why at my current service if it is a transport it waits till we have an extra ambulance available. I personally think nursing homes should have a van equipped to even transport bed ridden non emergent patients to appointments.

Same here, but we will not take an Inter-facility, non-emergent transport request, unless it's made 24 hours prior. Otherwise, all dispatched calls have the priority. That being the case, the local nursing homes have either purchased their own vans, or contracted w/ a service.

AMEN

There are very few "emergencies" we go to at the nursing home. Our local one has gotten alot better with their usage of private carriers. BUT, if they take to long, they call 911 because they know the pt is out the door in 10 min that way.
