Help Me Fix My System!

I'm going with the "black book" solution for now. Dates, times, names, places, run numbers. Nothing to violate HIPAA, but enough to prove anything I need to prove.

I would leave, but where would I go? My wife is the real bread winner and she's staying put. I'm too old for the fire service (civil service) and there's not another EMS service close enough to be feasible. Also, most of family and friends are here and I want them and the rest of the fine folks in this county to have a quality system.

Leaving it all behind is the obvious solution. Unfortunately, it's not an option.

I don't think anybody here takes it the wrong way. You're preaching to the choir here on EMT City, where you speak the conventional wisdom. Most of us -- especially us old timers -- share your pain. It's when you realise that the situation you are describing is not unique to just a few systems that the pain becomes unbearable. This is the suckage that is EMS in America, coast to coast, with very rare exceptions.

We're looking for solutions too. Unfortunately, the majority of the profession is made up of people who are either too inexperienced to realise what the problems are, or too caught up in their own selfish turf war to care about the profession at large. Consequently, seriously... there is no other feasible answer except to nuke the whole system and start over from scratch.

OK any how- back to the topic at hand-- I just want to attest to you are not joking at the unprofessonalism. One might jest and joke at the"REDNECK" ability of an Arkansan....BUT I KID YOU NOT when I say that Jeff Foxworthey must camp out in these folks front yard and film documentries to get his material for "you might be a red neck if!!"

I'm not trying to be snide here but my own co-workers, for the most part, wouldn't have been hired to work in EMS anywhere else. They're lazy and unprofessional. Now, if I were looking for tips on how to nap anywhere, respond unprepared, and generally live like a slob....these would be the right people!

Many Many Air Evac flights take place in Arkansas. There are day's I am thinking TOO many!!

Did that one REALLY need to fly? Well, the EMS called us......Hmmm yes they called us but was it because this patient TRULY has a life or limb threating injury or illness or one that might lead to permanate disablitily? OK we are gonna give them the benefit of the doubt.

NOW Yes the ER has called us to transfer this patient out.....Because no Ground unit is available??

Hmm funny thing about it is that most likely true reasoning behind both the scene flight and the hospital transfer was the fact that the above described ground crews simply do not want to deal with the patient. They are receiving a patient in a very extreme rural area and a trip by ground on a 2 lane crooked Arkansas Highway To Little Rock, or Fort Smith is not what they would rather be doing. BECAUSE after all-- they might miss the race-- it's the Southern 500 at Darlington this weekend! ( Oh wait-- they don't host the memorial day race at Darlington any more)....... So, you get my drift??!!
