  1. Back in January I was driving late at night after being on a 24 hour guard shift and I fell asleep at the wheel and crashed my car woke up and called 911 right away. I am trying to get into emt school and wondering if I can even one get in and if so can I get a job afterword with this on my record?
  2. Hey, All! I"m a paramedic student in Pittsburgh, Pa, and I graduate in June. When I graduate, I'd like to move to either North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, or Florida. I was just curious if anyone had any suggestions on decent places to work. I'm okay with busy (I've been an EMT for four-years, so I don't say that without experience), and I"m okay with not having the latest, and greatest of equipment. My primary concern is just being able to make a livable wage, where I would likely have a second part time job, and where the company treats employees well. I don't think I'm listing unreasonable goals, but we'll see! Thanks in advance!
  3. Hey all, I'm considering relocating to the midwest - probably the Wisconsin area from Southern New England. Salaries here are probably some of the highest in the country, but we also have some of the highest standards of living in the country. All things being equal, salary should be relative to the cost it is to where you live. I'm curious what salaries are in the MidWest and if most EMTs and medics can get by on your salary there - or are you juggling multiple jobs. I talked to one or two medics in the area and was surprised to learn that 24 hour shifts are often the standard.
  4. Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I am currently employed by the FDNY as a medic. ( Love my job, but want to leave NY)My family is relocating to Charlotte. My wife was offered a position in her company that is providing us with an opportunity to leave NY. I attended Medic911's assessment center and was accepted onto their waiting list for the next class. I want to know how much advance notice they will give me before the start of the next academy class. I have two children in school and they have to be transferred. I also need to give notice to the FDNY. I have looked at homes and have an idea of where we will live. I have requested this information from Medic911 and not received a reply. The human resources manager told me she has no idea when the next class is, but I just want to know how much notice they will give. My home is sold and I have to get out of it by October 1st. I would appreciate any information from the community. Thanks
  5. Hi! I'm new to the site so this is really exciting I finished up my EMT basic class in December 2012 and was NREMT certified in January. I'm debating whether or not to go straight into a paramedic program or try to get a job as an EMT first. I live in Washington so what do I need to do for either? Advice and suggestions greatly appreciated
  6. Hello Everyone, I am starting this thread to see if there are any contacts or people on here familiar with the St. Louis / Eastern Illinois area. I have been a licensed EMT for about 6 months, have applied to numerous places to no success. I was just curious if anyone knew of any opening in the areas I listed. Or if anyone on here currently works in the areas i listed and had some advice. P.S. I start Paramedic school soon, so I am looking for part time work. Thank you all for your time, Kyle
  7. I have recently registered for an EMT-b training course through Emergency Care Programs and CAN'T WAIT! Has anyone taken or heard of Emergency Care Programs? I did some research before choosing a program since I am paying for it myself and currently am a full-time pre-PA student and it seemed to be the best fit in regard to schedule, cost, and availabilities. (link: http://www.emergencycareny.com/) My training starts at the end of May, after I graduate from Hunter College with a BA in Sociology, and ends in mid-August. My plan is to work as an EMT for a couple of years while taking the additional I need to apply to a PA program. Based on your experience as an EMT / EMS / Paramedic / emergency care provider do you think finding a job in NYC or the surrounding area will be extremely difficult? My focus has always been about emergency care, so I wanted to get as much experience as possible before immersing myself in PA school. Thank you a future EMT-b & PA.
