  1. First, to provide care, BLS, EMT-B, ILS or ALS in TX you must have medical direction. Second, all first responder and stand-by organizations must be licensed through TDSHS. Third, ANY vehicle that is used for medical stand-by or response must be licensed through TDSHS (this includes POV's). Most POV's are covered under your first responder organizations license. All vehicles (including POV's) must have a TDSHS BLS to MICU capable license or a copy of your FRO's license in it at all times. While there are MANY organizations out of compliance this does not give ANYONE the right to provide care whenever or wherever they want without regards to regulations and/or medical direction.
  2. The Department I work for mandates an EVOC/CEVO course during the academy. We are currently developing a CE/recertification program for EVOC/CEVO. The state of TX requires nothing that I know of.
  3. Austin TX Base Pay $41,700 but that does not include the built-in OT for the 56hr work week. You can tack on about $17,000 in OT without working one extra hour above and beyond your shift. Most of our Medic's make between $60k and $100K. The cost of living is less and there is no state income tax. I think someone from Houston already said that......... We are currently hiring. In fact we are going to try and hire 75-130 medics this year alone. Attrition is average here but we are adding a 4th shift when we convert to a 48hr work week and adding new stations. I made $86k without working very hard for it. Come on down if your up for the challenge.
  4. We use it here in Austin. Currently STARFlight has it and the ground units will be getting it in April. Our clinical operating guidelines have it in there for musculoskeletal trauma and burns. We still use Morphine for cardiac pain management.
