  1. Geez, with all the infighting about Boston EMS, who even needs to mention the Yankees to start a fight?

Ah, f--k it, I will. I took this picture Tuesday night at the end of the top of the 9th, while listening to Ol' Blue Eyes singing New York, New York:

  2. Ok reject, maybe you didnt read me right.

If protocols allow it. This obviously considers several parts to be included in the decision to stop a pacer. One, the ability to interpret a already acquired ECG, the meds and manual defbrillator capability to pace, and intubation.

This was a suggestion based around the ability to do it.

and yes, there ARE counties here doing it. As well as counties elsewhere.

I think you are just being sarcastic about the magnet. But they deserve the magnet if they're getting on your nerves.

  3. I think that anyone who works for a service and loves it there and is happy is going to (maybe wrongfully) guess that it would be that way for anyone who worked there. Maybe to them IT IS the bestest place in the world. But, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I am sharing mine.

You are a wise medic student, and hit the nail right on the head.

A lot of people bash the place I work at full-time. Yeah, it has its problems, but I am happy there, and in my opinion, it is only my happiness I care about.

  4. First off, a speedball is also cocaine and heroin.

He was dumb enough to take cocaine, he can walk.

If you are gonna treat him, treat him with Valium or any other benzo. ASA and NTG will not work on CP due to cocaine. Something to do w/ the adrenergic rush from the coke.

  5. Start in the big city. Then you can become a sarcastic cynical wiseass like me.

In all seriousness, you will do more in the city in 1 week than you will rural in 1 month.

And Boston's EMS system is better than NYC's. That's probably the only thing Boston has better.

I remember now! Number 6 is No Sleep Til Brooklyn by the Beastie Boys. I am from Brooklyn, of course.

  7. The station where I volunteer has a checklist sheet created by an employee. Each and every person coming onto their shift has to complete and submit to management. If something is missing, in theory, management will contact the appropriate person to avoid this in the future. The checklist includes everything from how many backboards including straps to the amount of O2 in the tanks to all ALS gear. I think this is a good idea and holds people accountable for their trucks.

I think I know you from a past life!

Actually, it only takes my partner and I 10 minutes to check my bus. He does the outside, and I do the ALS crap, and then we both tackle the inside. I'm OCD about my bus, and I share it with a couple of day-pukes who don't know how to restock anything. It pisses me off!

  8. Where I work in Jersey, we draw bloods, and the Trauma staff uses our bloods for types and cross. Then again, it's under the 5-8 minute window since we are so close to the Trauma Center.

Rid, question for ya. If I start a saline lock, and the person needs blood, can blood go through the lock? When I hang a bag, I always put a lock at the end of the IV tubing to make life easier for the ER staff (they take care of us, so we take care of them).

  10. This applies for everyone in the US.

    Everyone forget about EMTALA?!!

If you have a patient that wants to go to a hospital on divert, THE HOSPITAL CANNOT REFUSE THE PATIENT!!! It's Federal Law. I've pissed off my fair share of staff because of it, but I don't care. I take my patients where they want to go.
