  1. *Update* My mom, a physician assistant, reccomended a book called the "Anatomy Coloring Book". Despite my initial reservations concerning the name, the book actually looks pretty useful. The author is Wynn Kapit/Lawrence M. Elson. Anybody have any experience with this book?
  2. Merry Christmas Eve! On a sidenote, the lack of excitement on 12/21/12 was a huge letdown. I was at least expecting some interesting calls for a ride along, but nope, the Mayans tricked us.
  3. Excellent input, appreciate you veterans helping out a n00b like me.
  4. Well, if you wanna give Virginia a try, West End Volunteer Rescue Squad operates mostly in Richmond city, and runs ACLS. I believe that that every one of their ambulances operates as ALS, but you can check the site for confirmation (http://wevrs.org/). However, still gotta represent for Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad ( http://lakesiderescue.org/):We don't run exclusively ALS, but we run it often, in addition to BLS, depending on the call. You couldn't go wrong choosing either squad.
  5. Unique problem here. I wear a size 17 shoe, and I am in need of good EMT boots. So far my searches have come up with nothing, though perhaps I am not searching hard enough. Anyone with suggestions feel free to let me know, and if I find some, I'll post it here for other "bigfoots".
  6. Absolutely senseless. Hope those who are wounded recover, and those who are responsible are brought to justice.
  7. Hey everybody, starting EMT-B classes in January, and I was wondering if anybody had any good reading suggestions prior to taking the course?

    Hey!

Hey everyone! I'm a 16 year old student starting EMT-B classes in January. Im really looking forward to getting into the medical prior to pre-med/med school. So uh... yeah, happy to be here!
  9. Hey everybody, new guy on this forum. This month, I am starting an EMT-B course, as well as joining my local rescue squad. I'm a 16 year old student, and I'm excited for the course, but I was hoping to get some general advice. What were your general experiences during your first EMT course? How should I prepare? Also, what was your experience like being a newbie on the squad? How did you do your first few months on the job? And finally, how should I mentally prepare myself for the job? Helping people and working in the healthcare field has been my dream since elementary school, and I'm dedicated to really doing a good job, but I know it can be a rough job, and I was wondering if there really is any way you can mentally prepare yourself. Whew, long post. Anyways, I appreciate any feedback.
