  1. Welcome to the city! i'm from the RVA area as well, good to have a fellow Virginian on here.
  2. Tragic, pointless violence. Seems like an incredible loss of life over poaching. I can't believe that the suspected poacher opened fire on the police. Does sound like the poacher ended up getting what he deserved though.
  3. My agency has jumpsuits as an optional alternative to the polo and ems pants. However, being pretty tall I find them to be moderately uncomfortable as the weight tends to really drag down on my shoulders, as I believe someone already stated.
  4. "Police say the suspect continued to drive westbound when the ambulance broke down near City Avenue." Ha! The fact that the ambulance broke down is an entirely different conversation I'm sure the agency will soon be having.
  5. I think it's admirable that you're trying to make something of yourself with a career in medicine. That being said, even a volunteer agency is unlikely to accept you (my agency for example will NOT accept anyone with any felony record). Even if you do find an agency, they would be HIGHLY unlikely to let you drive the ambulance. I think you may need to consider another career choice. I'm not trying to put you down, but EMS is just unlikely to work in your particular situation.
  6. Amen to that. Although I thankfully didn't experience this, many of the people from my class who tested with me got at least one proctor on a power-trip.
  7. In honor of Halloween coming up....
  8. Hey everybody, I'm back to the forum. I was on here briefly during my EMT course, and I'm happy to say that I successfully passed my EMT-B certification back in August. Since then, I have continued volunteering at my local squad, and have made some great friends and gained experience along the way. Other than that, I've been juggling high school and volunteering, and I hope to be more of a regular around here. Glad to be back!
  9. In Virginia, we still use EMT-B, EMT-I, and EMT-P (Paramedic).
  10. Although I don't particularly like the idea of abandoning a baby, I can see how it might be better to give the baby to those who can care for it, rather than keep it and give it a horrible upbringing. And I think it's better for the baby to be handed over to a hospital or EMS rather than put in a dumpster.
  11. This is awesome, I feel like I need to write it down somewhere.
  12. How are you liking the Kindle HD? I have the 1st generation Kindle Fire, and I'm debating whether I should upgrade.
  13. Better late than never with the post haha
  14. I feel like the health of the patient should have priority over everything else, including seniority.
  15. Hahaha wow, makes me glad I live in the south.

    Hello

I'm starting EMT-B classes in January as well. Welcome!
  17. From one new member to another, welcome!
  18. Thanks for all the input! As far as the age concern goes, the squad I am joining allows 16 year olds. I'm not sure if I can participate in ride alongs, but as Kate_826 pointed out, I think the practical experience of just being around other EMTs and Paramedics is just as valuable as ride alongside. In the end, I'm here to learn, either way.
  19. Oh man, I'm sorry. I didn't even consider that some people might want to take advantage of the people on this site. I guess I'm just excited to start learning and really helping people, and a month seems a long time to wait, if you know how I feel.
  20. Hey guys, prospective EMT-B student here, starting classes in January. Maybe its pure curiosity, or boredom (or insomnia), but I'd be rather interested in hearing about some of your most memorable EMS experiences, if you'd care to share. If you don't feel comfortable sharing, I definitely understand, but if you do, share away! Any interesting, unusual, or just particularly memorable stories will do. Who knows, maybe we'll all even learn something. Share away!
  21. I'm 6'2. Hahaha, oh stop it you
