  1. I guess as far as schools go, everyone will have their own opinions, for good or bad. Every school has their good points, every one has their bad. Best bet is make your decision, which you have, and make the best out of it. Take whatever you can from the course, ask questions, and be an advocate for yourself, so you can get the best out of the education for which you are paying.

  2. I thought that the episode wasn't bad. I agree with Dust, the acting is improveing. However I think that Trauma will be a one season wonder. I heard today that of the 20 episodes that NBC finally ordered, they have stopped production and are calling it done at 18. Season Finale (series?) is going to be at the end of April, two weeks earlier than initially announced.

As far as backing your partner vs. your GF, it would depend on the situation, but I can see myself doing it in the right circumstances. It all depends.

And I don't know if I'm dumb, or just someone who cares too much.....but I can see myself doing exactly what Rabbit did in that situation. Standing by his partner. At least if it was a partner I cared about.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing myself when I first replied, lol. I see this one heading for the gutter real quick!

  4. You're the only one who seems to be stressing over it, Mr. All Caps.

I'm not stressing. Just frusterated/amazed at the amount of whining going on about the show. Like I said...we get it. It's BS. But it's been hounded to death already. All I'm saying is if it's that bad, don't watch it. Don't watch it, then come on here and bitch about how bad it is???? Just my two bits, dust.

  5. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, however it sounds like the usual bang up job of medical accuracy.... But you know something......IT IS A TV SHOW. I know it's been mentioned before, however people seem to still be hung up on how lousy this show is. IF YOU DON"T LIKE IT, DON'T WATCH. It's really as simple as that. If the show is that bad, It'll be canceled, and we won't have to worry anymore now will we?? Trauma is NOT an accuate portrayal. We get it. Nor is it a recruiting video. The show is complete BS, yeah, but you know, I don't mind it. I laugh at the error's and ego's. and realise it is a TV SHOW. Just like HOUSE, Law&Order, etc. And I bet you guys watch those, errors and all. Relax. because really??? Is it worth stressing over??? Especially when it'll probably be gone by the end of the season?

  6. The bottom line with this has to be if you have personally assured you will be able to finish your in hospital time, and your ambulance time there is no reason for them to charge you more money or delay you a year. I would be outraged at the lack of flexibility.

Even so I have to agree with FireMedic65 here, my medic program, didn't stop for people with surgeries, broken bones, car accidents, lost family members or even pregnancy. It was the students responsibility to work it all out and make the dead lines.

I am truly sorry for your loss, however, to be perfectly candid, our bereavement leave where I work is 3 days from date on the death certificate whether or not they fall on work days. I can understand you have trouble focusing, but perhaps asking for 6 weeks off was a little much. Maybe as an alternate you can lighten your load in other areas of your life.. in case you are unable to get through the "pecking" order because that in and of itself will take a lot of time, which will not help your case, or help you have time to destresss and relax, I mean if your going to go through all of that might as well just go to the shift on the ambulance and be stressed!

tskstorm has a perfectly valid thought with lightening the load in other areas of your life where you can. Life doesn't always throw scenario's at us, however it's how we work our way through them that counts. I am sorry for your loss, however if you can learn how to practise medicine while dealing with this.....when you hit the real world on car, not much will faze you.

All that being said, you know yourself best, and if you feel being off car for awhile is the best way to deal with things, then maybe that's what you have to do. If you lose your year because of this, well that sucks, but nothing that can not be re-accomplished at a later date.

I want to echo what everyone else has said, move up the food chain until you get someone who can/and is willing to help you. If you can't YOU have to make a decision, "Can I pull it together enough to finish Practicum by de-stressing the rest of my life where I can?"

If you have to pull out, there is no shame in it. I have had to walk away from the field myself before, to get myself re-centred and get my head back on task. However when I come back I'm always re-charged, re-energised and ready to raise hell.

  7. Well I was all set to post in here how dispatch can't be blamed on everything, and that the information they supply is only as good as the information they recieve. And I suppose to a certain extent, this is true.

However after being sent out on a call in the fog and icy roads this evening, for an address that doesn't exist, and with a call back number that is disconnected.....You kind of have to wonder. My partner and I were looking for this address for close to 30 mins. I contacted dispatch and told them that our information is not lining up, are you SURE the call is in our town? And the answer was yes. So we looked, and looked, and finally realised that the first 3 digits of the non-functioning phone number may belong to the next town over. In this day and age of cell phones though, nothing is a guarantee. As I called dispatch to check on the posibility of this, when I got to them they told me that they had indeed called out the wrong unit, and that we can stand down, and that the appropriate town service is being called.

Total elapsed time from call recieved until this revelation, 49 minutes..........

It was for a minor call, however had this been someone haveing a cardiac arrest......well that's just frightening.

I have no idea what could have been done dfferently on our end, as I did question the address, I asked for the call-back number (which I believe was copied down wrong by dispatch as I verified it x3 with them, only to find it not in service.) I contacted a local member of our service to see if they had any insight into where our call may be located based on address, , and I even question dispatch as in whether or not they were sure they had the correct town.....as well my partner contacted people they knew in the area to try and narrow down our search area, as of course to top it all off, dispatch reported that there were no bldg numbers on the location in question.

any thoughts, as I've had dispatch screw-up before, but this is definitely a gooder.

  8. Hello,

Some interesting news out of BC. These two articles are about the Trumpy Report. The second one has actual details from the report.

    http://columbiavalle...lance-services/

Not the best thing to hit the press with the strike (..the sequel...) looming this spring.

    Cheers,

WOW......BC medics are at the top of the pay scale in Canada??? I cry a great big Bravo Sierra on that one. This dude needs to pull his head out of his a$$.

  9. I had the opprotunity to be a part of a very informative in-service dealing with pediatric patients yesterday, that was hosted by a Medical Director form another area. However one part of the in-service is not sitting well with me and I would like some feed back on what others think. He stated that it is "ok to lie to get pt's to come to hospital, but not if you are trying to get out of transporting the patient." Personally I do not agree with this statement. As EMS PROFESSIONALS, I don't believe we should be, nor does our code of ethics allow us to, lie to our patients. As well, we make one lie on scene, and if things snow ball, we may well be having our own character called into question, which then has other people's ability to trust us compromised as well. Is it worth it? So I ask the people in these forums, Is it ok to lie to pt's? If so when? Or am I over thinking this entire thing? Thanks.

  10. I can quite honestly say that I am less than shocked about Trauma getting canceled. The only thing I am surprised about is that they are letting it run the full 13 eps instead of doing the humane thing and just pulling the plug. It's amusing, in a sad sort of way. If they had decent writers, actors, and they quit trying to GRAB ratings by doing obviously assinine things..... The explosions, Rabbit being an ass, etc from episode 1, for instance this could have progressed into a decent show. Oh well. RIP Trauma

  11. They were lazy. This is another reason there should be no remote controlled doors at fire, ems, police stations. Make someone stand there hit button, watch ambulance, truck, car pull out then hit close, jump in and then go. This ensures people see what is in front before moving. It also delays less than 15 seconds and 15 seconds in the field will not change patient outcome.

Saying that the crew was "lazy" in this case seems overly harsh. Every service, paid or volly, have their policies in place, whether enforced or not. And that is a management issue, not a staffing one. Management provide the right lead, the crew will fall into line. Personally I don't believe that the crew was lazy, so much as complacent. Yeah, I realise, not much of distinction, but a distinction none the less. Additionally, drive out the bay 1000 times with no incident, what is going to make ANYONE think that 1001 is going to be the problem. The entire situation is definitely going to make me re-think how things are done at my service, because we do the same thing, hop in, open the door, and roll. I do agree with spenac though, that 15 seconds will make no diifference in outcome to a pt. I think that it's something I am going to take to the management at my service. Just my two bits.
