Having been on both sides of the altercation, both as a Deputy and as an EMT, I believe this was handled poorly. I believe that the police officer acted improperly at the scene. It is not like the driver of the ambulance was going to disappear and not be able to be located. What would have happened if there was a brother officer in the back.

What if the pt. had coded during the altercation and there was nobody in the rig?

You cant blame the system for her failures. Granted she had some baggage going into this training, and I doubt if her age was the issue. EMS is not for everyone. ( IMHO )

we here in my area, the biggest potential problem with the EMS and FF jobs would be alcohol. After 1+ years with this fire company and ambu squad, I have yet to see any volly appear to a tone in anything other than a sober condition. If they have been drinking, they dont show up. They know the penalties for showing up impaired. There are just to many eyes upon you, be it at the fire ground or at the hospital.

I need your advice on a little predicament I have.

- He panics in any situation that's out of his comfort zone be it a clinical or non clinical situation.

- He smells.

- He refuses to take part in training and wonders off to fiddle around with something else or makes stupid comments and bangs on about old war stories that send everyone to sleep.

- We have to tell him to sit in the vehicle when were attending to a serious patient.

- He can not communicate at a normal level.

- He freaks out when a patient presents for assistance.

- The majority of volunteers refuse to work with him.

- His at every EMS activity, training, events and hangs around like a bad smell.

- The list could go on and on but I'm sure your head is already exploding.

How do I fire a volunteer?

Yikes, This guy sounds like an accident waiting to happen.. My thoughts are..tell him thanks you for your support, but you are a LIABILITY, not an asset, and your services are no longer needed.

It's 2.am... SOB call which turned into an arrest. Mutual aid backup arriving at same time grabbed our monitor and SP02 monitor. SP02 was left behind, because the first arriving crew didnt bring it in with them, so they didnt know it came from our rig.
