  1. I get really mad... blow up on the ride home... looks funny me yelling at myself. get home hide in my room grab a beer and come on here. chat chat chat. feel better go to bed drunk. wake up hungover and do it all again.

That was me last night and this morning. lol 8) need these... lol

  2. Here in the Hilltowns we cover 6 towns, its somewhere over 300sq miles of coverage area. Easy was to think about it is thats its about 3 times the size of Boston. Our station is centeraly located we have 2 ambulances. 1 fully staffed from 8-4 weekdays one EMT on during the 8-4 weekends. All other hours are our volunteers. They do a great job slamming out the calls. Last night was a good example. 5 calls between 1300-2300 and one ambulance was on a fire standy by with the fulltime crew. Without our volunteers 4 calls would have been missed.

  3. We have them but we have never used them the whole time ive been with my company. If they went in a cabinet than i would say they have 3 inches of dust one them. lol I almost used them once. that was for an unstable pelvic fx there great for stabilizing them. but we had our cravats and a few tricks up our sleeves so we didn't bother with them.

We also have to call med-con for orders and well from what i have heard some of them don't know how to use them themselves. deflate in the ED ohh how scary.

The above stated is only hearsay and unknown to actual events that have happened.

  4. Ohh i so know how you feel. Ive started going back to the gym about a month ago. Ohh man i didnt relize how out of shape i was. But now im up to walking over 4.5 miles acouple of time a week. and to the gym acouple of times a week... Your right it does make you feel better. I do it first thing in the morning before work.

  5. I have had 2 bad experences. First was a code we brought in but onscene the husband went missing so we had no clue who she was or what happened or how long she had been down. So i preceded to get yelled at about all of that. all i could do is call for times and gave them to him.

Second was when i got an exposure to blood. The ED Doc wouldnt even help. the nurse told me to go see my primary doc and get tested. The ED doc said he didnt think that the fact of me being covered up to my elbows and face spashes wernt enough of a risk to even test the patient. needless to say i still dont like him even tho everything came out great.

  6. Yeah ill admit it i smoke. something ive been doing for years. Tired quitting but never works. Everwhere i work we smoke on duty we have our own areas. Im sure there soon to make EMS smoke free like they did the FD and PD departments.

  7. Proper lifting is your key. also go to the gym try and get in better shape and stronger. work the legs... lol also talk to a trainer and see if he offers a class for emt's anf proper lifting and strangth training. out here there is a trainer who used to be an EMT so hes a great help

  8. What i like to do are 2 things.

    1. Depending on what time of year it is i like to figure out what kinds of calls we are going to be faced with the most. ie: enviromental emergencies hot- cold, drownings, ski accidents.

    2. There always comes a time when someone dosnt remember how to do something or use something. when this happens i like to do a refresher on a piece of equiptment. protocols are also something i like to go over. im guilty of not remembering if i had to call medcon for activated charcol. lol

  9. I wouldnt know what to do until i was faced with this type of situation. I personaly dont want to be in her shoes. I feel for her and her family. I dont know much about what its going on i only have heard about this in small bits.

  10. Well out here in the Hilltown we cover 3 times the size of Boston. Thank goodness not as many people tho. Depending on what town your going to you can be looking at anywhere from 15min ride to a 90min ride. I never knew how out of shape i was until i had to do CPR for 45mins to the closest hoispital (and she was a big woman) but anyway im just glad to have one thing pretty close and thats life flight or medflight granted its 10-15 out most of the time but hey sometimes they beat the ambulance (if dispatched by FD onscene right away). Im so used to long rides that when i went and did my ride time in the city i couldnt believe how many times u can be at the hospital in 1 hour. lol

  11. Well i cant say that i have. Not atleast to my face anyway. I live in a community where 99.98% of the population is white. We cover 6 towns in a small part of western mass. The only time that changes is during the summer when people come to relax and visit our lakes and rivers to have a nice swim. I know there are some in our community that dont like the fact that there are people of other races in our small towns. When your on the job there is no such thing as racism, no matter how stupid the situation is that they got themselves into. Because i know damn well of atleast 3 people from out own community that have done the exact samethings. lol
