  1. You are no longer employed by the said service right? Get caller id and don't answer their calls. If they leave a message and it is harrassing then keep a copy of the recording.

Keep records and if needed turn them into the state.

I would ignore them unless of course they have your last paycheck or vacation pay that they are refusing to pay.

  2. If you like structure and jumping thru hoops it sounds like Boston is a good fit. I for one did not go to medic school to have to work as a basic and then depending if they liked me and didn't try to wash me out I could get one of the prestigious medic slots.

NO THANKS> But for those who want to go that way and work for "The best" then I guess that you could follow the route Boston EMS has set up.

If it works for them then more power to em.

  3. I'd have went to command staff or the supervisor. This is not a matter of friendship or loyalty it's a matter of liability.

I think one simple question can address this issue: IMHO

Would you want him/her to take care of you if you were very sick or hurt bad? If the answer is yes then my prayers are with you and heaven help you. If the answer is no then don't let him work.

    Simple as that.

The second question is do you want him driving you to the hospital or what not? If the answer is no then Supervisor time.

Give him the opportunity to take him off shift. I'd allow that only one time. If he/she came in that way again I'd go to the supervisor.

Remember, you are as responsible for the care and well being of your patient as your partner is.

  4. Since this was in 1985 or so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt but my question that is screaming in my head is this

You smelled chemicals on this guy and you went in to the truck to investigate?????????? I would have removed the guy from the truck area and called HAZMAT to take care of the truck.

I know it was 1985 or so but the person who investigated the smell could have been the next patient.

On a sidebar, I had a call where the top hazmat guy in the county responded to a tanker truck crash and drove up to the scene and parked 10 feet from the ruptured tanker truck. Needless to say you can't buy good sense!!!

  5. I've worked both types of services.

I truly enjoyed the rural ems experience because you are it out there.

Transport times vary from in the small town I was working at would be 5 minutes to the hospital all the way up to 1 hour if we went all the way to the southwest county line area.

Anything significantly bad would be flown out eg trauma or major cardiac illness.

I've also worked urban ems where total call time might be 20 mins total.

And yes you can get an assessment and treat the patient in that time and provide excellent care even though some say it's Wam bam medicine.
