  1. Putting aside the trolling by the OP, this can be a useful discussion. So in this case, SCOTUS has decided that a corporation is exempt from a law based on religious objections. At what point does this stop? Can a company object to a minimum wage based on religious objections? How about a Muslim company refusing to serve Christian or Jewish customers or even women who are not dressed in hijab? Can they force a female employee to wear a hijab even if they are not Muslim? This could potentially be a slippery slope. As an aside, can someone show me where the bible addresses abortion?

  2. The protocols that prehospital providers work with are created by physicians. As a physician, you don't have protocols, you work under your license but I doubt you will find a department that is going to hire a physician to be a field provider, except in the cases of medical directors or the one or two HEMS services that use them. Another consideration to working in the field for a department is malpractice.

  3. You will not be able to afford to become a doctor on a FF salary. Why bother becoming a doctor if you want to work in the field as a medic/FF? There are opportunities for doctors to work in the field. Many medical directors still do field time. There are a few helicopter services that use doctors (but the pay sucks). No FD is going to care about your MD/DO unless you are going to sign off on their protocols. Otherwise it will be, "You went to medical school? Wow. Here's your hose, put the wet stuff on the hot stuff."

  4. Yeah, we can't give you much help with the current issues without more info (and it is understandable if you don't want to go into further detail). Best advice is to get your house in order as quickly as possible. Be prepared for people to bitch and moan and call you names behind your back due to changes you implement. Just remember that you are doing what you are doing to keep your company running and your employees employed. They may not realize that but that is why you were chosen and they were not.

  5. Yeah, because we all know what a miracle drug oxygen is. If they had just brought it with them, this girl would have lived and increased her IQ by 20-25 points. I don't know if there in necessarily a protocol that says what you have to bring in to the residence. I would just base it on common sense. If they knew they were heading into a cardiac arrest and didn't bring the AED, shame on them. It may not have made a difference. What if the kid was in asystole, the AED would have been useless. I would be curious to find out more info. This is where anyone in the medical field that finds themselves on the defense side is screwed. You are being judged by a bunch of people who have no idea how the real world, either in the field or in the hospital, works. What seems wrong to a layperson (staying on scene and performing CPR) is actually the right thing to do. The problem is that these people have a medical knowledge limited to what they see on TV. A truly impartial jury should be comprised of 6 providers and 6 laypeople.
