  1. In the system that I run in we carry only 20mg of versed between our first in bag and cabbage case/when we RSI we can give a total of 10mg and for seizures max is 5mg/and going I.M that takes for ever why they did not try the M.A.D device is beyond me the nose and all the capillaries the drug would have hit the system alot faster but maybe the M.A.D was not available or is not in there protcol but it is a handy little device Ativan I believe would have been best for the situation, but I do not know there protcol and like I tell many people it is very easy to sit here and arm-chair there call I was'nt there and have no idea what they were expericing with this patient/but as long as they did not make any med errors and followed there protcol they did the best that they could and at times in the field that is all we can do
  2. Etomidate In many cases will work fine alone like has been mentioned by many other replies here but paralytics are nice to have for a back up in a RSI situation,Lido jelly applied to your tube helps with numbing your vagal response,in the system that I work for we are very agressive in the manner of RSI We carry Vec,Succ ,Versed,Etomidate,Ativan so we covered in about all situations we encounter One thing that you do want to watch with versed if you have or will be getting it is one of the side effects is hypotension and it will cause there pressures to drop I have seen this first hand And secondly something that you might want to discuss with your medical director is if your first dose of Etomidate does not produce the effect that your looking for is may you give a second our medical director in our system allows this and 2 dose will usually snowball anyone Good Luck
  3. Me being a medic have no problem with someone asking questions, but it is all in the manner that they are ask and the time that they are ask For instance your in the back of your truck working on a cardiac patient that is having a cardiac episode, this is already a tense situation and your dealing with someone that is already under stress and you are in the back of the truck with me and you say in front of the patient why did you do that or why are you doing that, that there alot of times makes your patient uneasy and causes them concern that you do not know what your doing and that has added more stress to there situation. other than that ask away its the only way to learn and good luck with medic school
