I don't plan on driving until about 1:55pm when I leave school to go work in the L&D unit at the hospital.

So today I gave blood for the first time. Now I'm feeling a little bit funny and dizzy is that normal?

Hey Monday thur Wensday 12 people from my school are going to the state competion. The event that I'm competing in is a EMT skills and writing test Any tips?

Yeah thats what we plan to do. Today after school we are meeting to practice and to study. We are using some of my dad's old paramedic work book for questions. Would anyone have any suggestions on where to get a medic bag for our supplies?? We need two medium sized ones and we where hoping to get our names put on them. The cheapest I have found one for is $80.00 without our names being added on them and I was hoping to find them for about $50.00 or $60.00?

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone. My dad and I talked lastnight and things with us are cool. I told him that I wanted to win just bad as he wants me to win but that he needs to quit focusing on that because if I don't win I don't want it to feel like I let him down. Well its back to practice for me and my partner both for a written test thats questions and a skills event. Any tips on preparing for that?

So I'm 18 and three months away from graduating highschool. My school has a program called HOSA and I competed in a EMT competion with it and won theird place at regionals and made it too state which is in four weeks. My partener and I have worked really hard. If we win at state we go to nationals which also means I have a chance at a scholorship which is awesome. At the sametime my dad is putting a lot of pressure on me to win yet when I need him to help me practice he is always working any advice?? Chas

It is a friend. No they are not doing it for any spiritual reason. They have been going through a lot of stuff and just stopped eating. The longest they have gone without eating that I know of is three days. No they do not have a history of a eating disorder.

What do you do if someone stops eating? Why is it such a bad thing and is it really that big of a deal?

I also think what most high schools have to see and deal with everyday would suprise most of you. Yes everything in that happens in a person life effects that person. I know that some teens couldnt handle it while others could I think it depends on the person. Like I said dont let them go on all the calls use your judgement and give them a chance to earn your trust and your respect. Life isnt always going to be what it seem and reality can be a good thing for a teenager I know from personal experiance and I've truned out okay!

Very true. I have to youger sisters and I wouldn't wont them to see stuff like that. The fact is yes they would have to do all the things you said and they would be hard for anyone. I also see that it is a great learning experiance.

So, my thoughts on this is you can judge someone for there age do I think a 13 year old should go on all calls because they are still young and could not handle some of the stuff they might see. I do think that having programs like the Explore program is a good thing. It gives teens something to do and keeps them out of trouble. I just turned 18 and have done a ride along for school as a jounor in high school after taking several medical class one of them being an EMS class. I dont think what a teen see will hurt them it will only make them stronger and they can learn so much. Most teens think they are invinceable and in all honesty there is somedays when I feel like nothing can hurt me. I've grown up with a dad who is a paramedic and was a vollinter firefighter so I've seen a lot. I could see the problume with the kid runing there mouth to there friends and stuff but thats why you make them sign something saying they wont do things like that. High schools should not be allowed on an abulance without trained Paramedics and EMT's with them. I think the exposure does teens good and they are more likely to look up to the Medics and respect what is asked of them. They should have some classes and training first. I think that its a good thing!

Yes, it does have a Bachelor-level degree which is why I want to go there.

Okay here is what I know for my first to years at college I'm staying home and going to a Community College to get my EMTB and Paramedic. Than I want to go some where to become a ER doctor and minor in criminal justice. I was looking at UTK University of Tennessee at Knoxville but recently I have decided I would like to go to school in NC. I have taken the ACT but I'm going to retake it because I wasn't happy with my score. I want a school that has a good program for ER doctors.

Well I want a college with a good medical program.

So I'm looking for a college in North Carolina or in Tennessee somewhere close to North Carolina.

What if the scouts are not an option? What if the kid/student is already trained in CPR and First Aid at both the basic level and the health care provider level?

No the teacher hasnt but they do use it alot less now than before so maybe something was said.

Yes our school's rules say that cell phones must be off and out of site. There have been days that I have left mine on silent but that was only because one of my family members was in the hospital and my dad was texting me with updates at lunch.

So what do you guys think about teachers using there cell phones in class? I know as a student it gets old after a while and I don't care if the teacher is talking on the phone or texting there child who is also in school it bugs me. As students your phone has to be turned off and put up at all times I understand the reasoning behind the rule and no I don't think that teachers should have to turn there phone off. I do think that they should only use it in certain situations.

Well I'm 17 and I have gone on calls before with medics for school I did a ride along last year where my dad works I wasn't with him at the time but I was with two medics he knew and he had to sign papers saying that the county he works for wouldn't be held responsible if I got hurt while I was with them. It was a great learning expreanice I'm hoping to do a Intership with that same service next semester. I know that the minute you step foot on the scene your health is at risk so I think that when a child does a ride along for educational purpose its okay. I have also been on a call with my dad when I was three and my parents where dating at the time he was a volunteer FF/firstresponder and while we where Cleaning the trucks up the tones went out so I went with them and sat in the truck but it wasn't like my dad brought me to work with him because he didn't we where at the playground which happened to be where the trucks where getting wash and I wanted to go see them and when the tones went out my dads caption said its a really bad house fire we could use your help can you come with us my dad looks at me and says you want to go I was like uh okay and went and it didn't have any negative effects on me and I was only three at the time. As for bring your child to work No your kids miss you enough and spending time with you needs to be done outside of work. Taking a pt's child to the ER with them when the only alternative is to leave a young child at home alone is perfectly okay because that way you can insure the child will be safe at least once you get to the hospital and you also know you wont be getting called back out to the scene because the child has burnt themselves or something of that nature. Just my thoughts.

Thanks yeah sometimes its hard to get everything off my mind or just to have quite. I have to sister ages 6 and 9. The phone also rings at odd hours because they need my dad to go into work.

Thanks for the advice I'm hoping to get some sleep tonight. It's third block and I'm not feeling all that great I'm not sure if it's from lack of sleep or the meds. the doctor gave me.
