  1. I would imagine the hold up is with the school, not NREMT. Especially if your whole class is having the same problem. NREMT waits for the go ahead from your school saying you passed and that it's all cool for you to take the test. Our school had our results turned in within 3 days. The school I went through has a very high pass rate for NREMT. If you didn't maintain a good grade point average in the class you weren't permitted to go on to NRT. The collage here has a very high pass rate for their class but their average of students passing NREMT the first time out sucks! Their class costs twice as much and as long as they get their money they couldn't care less if you actually know your stuff or not. We had 12 students in our class. One worked for the school so it was free for her to take it and just went through the class for the knowledge, never intending to pursue a career in EMS. Two were put through the class by their jobs because they wanted first responders. Out of 12 students, one person failed the class, one student had to take the written final twice but passed ( I HAVE NO CLUE HOW!) . I know there have been 6 out of the class that has taken NREMT and 5 of us passed the first time taking the test. The one girl that took the written final twice flunked the NREMT, NO BIG SURPRISE! I would call your school and find out what the hold up is. Josie
  2. I had my account set up and my test paid for before I took my final exam. I took my NREMT-B test within two weeks of finishing my class. I took my text on a Saturday, results were posted on Monday, and I received my certificate in the mail on TUESDAY. I was amazed! The verifications should come pretty quick if the person responsible for reporting that your eligable to take the test does it right after you finish class. Good luck on the test. It wasn't as horrifying as I thought it was going to be. It shut down on me in the early 70's questions. It didn't even take 45 minutes for me to finish. I'm not saying it wasn't hard or that theres no need to study. YOU DO! My friend and I took it at the same time and she had a ton of respiratory questions and I had a lot of OB and cardiac but the test questions are all over the place. The best advice I can give you is read the whole entire question and every answer given. It tries to trip you up.
  3. Well given the SOB that this patient was having I wouldn't have thought that 4 lpm would of been an option unless he wouldn't tolerate the NRB mask. I know that not all patients are text book case and not all will be treated the same but it just sounded odd that someone with these symptoms would not have gotten 12-15 lpm by NRB.
  4. I know I'm new at this but if your patient is having SOB and respirations are elevated as his is wouldn't you put him on NRB @ 12 - 15 lpm?
  5. "So think about this for a moment. You're going to start CPR on a patient who's obviously been dead? Rigor has set in? Lividity is present? By what you've said (despite your contradictions) you have to, right? Are you really going to do that? Last I checked that was not the case here. Of course your not going to do CPR on someone who is in rigor or where lividity is present. Dead is dead. We were talking about a case where someone is crashing without a proper DNR. Not someone who is obviously dead. Yes, I'm new and admit I have a lot to learn and as you said that's why I'm here. And yes, we have had a ton of stuff pounded into our brains. Even more importantly I know that nothing makes up for experience. I can tell ya that this newbie is going back to lurking!
  6. I'm just simply stating what my instructor drilled into our heads over and over again. He is and has been a medic for 30 yrs in this state. He said without a proper DNR we have got to start CPR. It may be that we are told to stop but we must, without question, start CPR if the family cannot provide a proper DNR. Josie
  7. Well like Lone Star, my state requires us to run the code unless the DNR is in proper order. If not it's me loosing my job. So in that situation, I feel bad for the old man, but I have to run with the code until ALS shows up then they can make that determination to stop the code. My instructor hounded on the fact that YES, he is a doctor but if we are directed to do something that conflicts with our scope of practice, when it hits the fan it's our job NOT his. So it's sad but I have to run the code. No choice without the proper DNR. Josie
  8. It was so cool to find this, my instructor gave us almost the exact same scenario. According to the protocol here if there is not a valid DNR we are to start CPR and call for ALS. We were also taught that even if med control tells us to discontinue CPR our scope of practice tells us we are NOT allowed, only ALS can make that decision. (It's our butt that can fry regardless of what the doc tells us) So legally we have to do CPR even if morally we want to just let him go in peace.
  9. There was never any doubt that you would pass and you know it. I know you will do great in medic too! Especially now that I will be an ocean away and cannot corrupt you. ROFL
  10. Oh yous a funny girl huh? LOL Hey, my momma didnt raise no fool, didnt take me long to figure out who it was in the class that wanted it as much as I did. Who else would I of hooked up with for a study partner, BEAVER???????? I think not. LOL Positive thinking huh? Ok, I seem to remember someone who was just as nervous and UNSURE as I was when we walked out of that building. One good thing about me putting off medic training for a year...... You will be finished and can study with me and help me through it. LOL Again, momma didnt raise a fool. LOL I am blessed to come out of the class not only an EMT but to have made a wonderful friend! I know you will achieve anything you set your mind to! Keep it up VAL and I see a preminition of a sweet little Baptist girl up on stage doing a shot with the band.......... *evil giggle* I can make it happen ya know, I have an IN. LOL Stay strong and THINK POSITIVE! Jose
  11. Hi DustDevil, Man do I wish I was too. It would be nice to have a friend over there. Not that I dont think I will make a few in a year but you know what I mean. lol My whole family thinks I'm crazy for going. Say I have bigger balls then they do. LOL I look at it this way, if it's my time to go it's my time to go. I hope you wont mind me bugging ya once I get over there. It's nice talking to people who are there and going through what I will be. Stay safe, Josie
  12. Hi, I joined the forum a few months back and although I have read a lot of great stuff I havent posted. I was just starting my EMT-B class when I joined and now that is over and I am officially a NREMT-B! I was planning on going onto medic in the fall but those plans have been put on the back burner for at least a year. I am heading to Iraq the middle of June for at least a year, non military. I have only made it into chat a few times. I work midnights ( until the 28th that is) and my job blocks all chat and between ATTEMPTING to sleep and keeping up with 3 teenagers it didnt leave much time for chat during the day either. I hope to get to know ya'll. There seems to be some really great people here with a lot of knowledge to share. Hello again from a newbie. lol Josie
  13. Hello, I haven't posted here before but I had to share my good news. I went to Columbus with dblueeyes on Saturday and took my NR and found out on Monday that I PASSED!!!!! The test shut down on me somewhere around 72, didnt see the exact number before it shut down. I actually gasped with fear when it shut down. lol I had heard conflicting stories about how the test worked so I honestly had no clue how I did. I actually recieved my certificate, patch, and NR card today in the mail but didnt have any test results or score. It is driving me insane! Part of me says "Take the PASS and move on" and part of me really wants to know how I did. Well, just had to share. Josie
