  1. Whoa, Spenac, both of our posts were at 4:01, you must have beaten me by a couple of seconds.
  2. Weeks into pregnancy? Any previous pregnancy's? Any problems there? Definitely want to give a stroke test to rule it out, (Facial Droop, Equal Grips, Slouching to one side, Slurred Speech). Any vaginal bleeding? Vitals?
  3. Not sure if these apply to humans, but will give it a try. General Impression? ABC's? H?yes Describe Pain? Tenderness or Rigidity? What Quadrant of the abd.? When did pain start? Will go from there.
  4. Don't you need that boiled water for the baby? Reminds me of this time where I was at a motor vehicle collision, and the guy had a broken leg. A motorist stopped, and said he was an emt (this happening prior to our arrival). He gave his report as, "Male, involved in MVA. Initial Pulse was 70, now is 64." That's great and all, but did you get anything useful? I mean even tell me he has a distal pulse or something, even though I'll be checking myself. Which makes me react when seeing collisions to, call 911, and keep driving. There's no way I'm risking my a** to get a pulse rate.
  5. Actually they're posted on the NJ EMS State Website. [web:e5568d3d8f]http://www.nj.gov/health/ems/legal.shtml[/web:e5568d3d8f] Just in case you want some dirt, .
  6. Ah, Thank You. It's funny how long it takes to get published.
  7. In 2006, there were roughly 70,000 EMT-B's in California. That would be all certified, despite whether paid, volunteer, ems based fire suppression (thanks JPINFV) or whatever. (According to EMS Magazine)
  8. Depends on his definition, are physicians included, what about EMD's? Do we include the US Territories?
  9. Would that be the December Issue of cygnus EMS Magazine? They have a lot of information from each state in the US, each province in Canada, and even territories and the UK. If it isn't....well, now you know.
  10. Probably the best argument I've seen so far in this thread. You don't wait a year after Kindergarten to practice your ABC's. Why wait to practice putting a Non-Re breather on? By the way....someone didn't use spell check 8)
  11. I'm pretty much doing so. I got my EMT in the spring of 07, and will be entering the paramedic classes in September 08. Getting all my pre-req's done. I'll tell you how it goes in 9 months
  12. ALS Response, what is his breathing like? Resp? Lung Sounds? Alert and Orientated? Conscious?
  13. Start with the basics. General Impression, pt. looks like crap and is sick. He's sick, load, go, get vitals on the way. O2 via NRB. SAMPLE. Is he Alert/Orientated? Is the patient complaining of anything? Doesn't seem that his blood sugar is low, but the Glucometer could be misreading and/or uncalibrated. Long shot here, does the backyard have tall grass? Might as well check patient on the way to the hospital for bug bites ticks and etc., seeing theres not much else from a BLS perspective without further info, so can't hurt if you're wrong. I'm sure I missed something, but someone will catch it. Merry Christmas!
  14. Now that's a scary thought. Give people needles who don't use them on a daily basis...hmm...
  15. Not enough choices in your poll. I can't really say my back was broken, but I definitely pulled a muscle (which I'm sure everyone has done), which put me out of service for 3 days or so. Wasn't so much the weight, although it did contribute, it was more the way in which the pt. was lifted. I've been much more careful lately to use the knees, and not the back. Taught me a good lesson early, with little consequences.
  16. For the responsibility given to me, not even close to enough.
  17. I don't have the education, and that's exactly my point. Sorry if it sounded like I wanted to do more advanced things, but without the education, it shouldn't happen. More and more you see the US EMT-B scope of practice continue to expand, yet we're still getting the same amount of training and education then we were before, even though it wasn't enough to begin with. You're Correct.
  18. Sorry, I'm not following you..what judgement?
  19. Sounds like your CFR-D is an NJ EMT-B. No Entonox though. In NYC and other places, EMT-B's can administer Albuterol, but not a national standard. An EMT-B in the states can also stick in an OPA as well as a NPA. Also, Glucose orally only, no glucagon. It differs from state to state, as said before. Seems like we're the ones in need of an overhaul.
  20. Medics near me use the lifepack, and those things never work (spo2). Some medics like to blow on them like the old Nintendo cartridges. There always asking us if we have a pulse ox.
  21. Yeah, we're pretty good about the upkeep, but things happen. I personally like Strykers, which is mainly what I use. I guess as the other thread about ALS monitors says, you like what you're used to. Sorry about the spelling mistake in the last post, here should be hear. (Don't like that new edit rule)
  22. Took a drunk kid in once, and while letting go of the handle on the stretcher, I here a ping, something flies off, and the stretcher goes boom on the ground. The kid thought he was on some type of ride when this happened. I felt bad at first, but no longer do. It was a Ferno, so you get what you pay for.
  23. Ah, Thank You. I was wondering why a NJ Paramedic wouldn't know that. Thank you for clarifying. I knew I shouldn't trust a website....especially a NJ EMS website.
  24. Actually NJ has 11 licensed agencies who provide air medical services. 7 out of state, including 6 from Penn. and 1 from Delaware. Assuming each agency has at least 1 bird, then I believe you can have 10 in NJ at once, who are all licensed. [spoil:af0ae95d12] Link to Proof[/spoil:af0ae95d12]
  25. You might want to take a look at this article, http://www.1strespondernews.com/webpages/n...b6-8b139f47464d Three Medevac's were landed, both north, and south star, as well as Atlantic Air One. Might want to take a look at how the logistics worked there. Even though there are only three helicopters, I'm sure planning was needed here. Plus, I'm in a couple photographs
