  1. I have had one call about 5 years ago. We were at the local hospital when a young kid approx. 10yrs old walked into the ER with his father his neck was deformed just looking at him you could tell what happened. Father stated son fell in the tub the night before struck his head/neck in the tub went to bed that night and woke up this am with his head turned hard to the right with his chin touching his Rt shoulder. the RN at the hospital was there we offered to take control of c-spine but she refused our help. The RN had the pt walk to ER room and sit there in a chair and wait for the Dr. We bought our concerns to her about c-spine but she said you were not called for this don't worry about besides he fell last night and has been up walking around he is fine. So the Dr. comes in feels the pt neck says you will be fine here is some TES you'll feel better in a couple of hours. So I said to the Dr. your not going to x-ray the kids neck nope he fine. So we ran out to the kids parents and told them how we felt and that if this was my kid I would demand c-spine and x-ray. parents said the Dr. knows best and they said that the Dr. wouldn't be wrong. We gave our advise if any thing changed to call 911 and we would treat him and by pass this hospital and take him to a hospital with CT. 2 hrs later toned out for the kid his neck got worse we c-spine him in position found he couldn't turn his neck when he tried he became weak in the arms and his chest felt heavy. So we called life flight in the kid was taken to Childerns Hospital had # c-3,c-4.
  2. Dust I agree with you if their medical director didn't haul them into the office. There is something wrong with their system!
  3. I have a question for you. May be your guide lines are different than ours in Canada. But you say you had a male who slipped and fell at home and you and your partner did not transport. I understand his wife stated that he has been falling down a lot lately. This would make me think that may be his HR is dropping and he becomes weak and falls to floor or vertigo, maybe his B/P Bottoms out. My Question is did you do vitals on this pt chem strip ,12 lead to R/O his heart. I would asked if he had hit his head in the last while since family stated that he has been fallen alot more. Did you do neuro exam?Did you ask about past medical history, did you ask what medication he was on did you check the meds to make sure he was taken them as he should. had the pt been eating and drinking proper amounts? Not picking on you just wondering what you did in your first exam besides pick the pt of the floor and put him to bed?
  4. I have also come across alot of ABD pain calls lately 6 in last 3shifts 4were N/V/D calls and the other 2 were AAA. No one has gone home from the station yet.
  5. In response to Psych pt's I have been in this job for 18yrs ++++. Medic53226 I'm not picking on you but I was taught that there is no such thing as a routine call and that all the pt's I pick up get checked out from head to toe before they are not transferred by me. It might take the extra min on scene but there are times when that extra min makes a BIG difference in the Pt.s life. I have had the calls for the little old lady who called because she is felling Stressed only find that she was not violent, but just need to talk to some one about the recent death of her husband and to find out that she had not been taking care of herself for the last 2 weeks no meds very little food intake. done a set of vitals C/S reading high B/P was 210/110 H/R was 88 reg and strong. she had no C/O other than feeling stressed placed her on the monitor NSR that went to uncontrolled A-fib to a-flutter with a 4:1 Block. We transported her code1lightand siren approx 10min drive. Later on she threw a clot in the ER and pasted away. My point is that my partner who is a 24yr vet said OH my GOD here we go again another Taxi run because she is stressed Why doesn't she call the taxi. So my point is if the pt is Violent then either have the PD transport or have them cuffed and PD go with you. But never assume that because they are stressed that it is not medical related until proven other wise.
