  1. Damn shame all the way around, but I saw this one coming when I initially read the article. If the guy was so unstable as to bring a gun to a funeral and shoot his partner's brothers, you had to know nothing good would happen.

  2. He was an EMT, not a paramedic, so much for the newspapers "facts". As far as a source, I have no intention of naming names, however I will tell you that his gun was in his cars glove box. When he left the party he walked to a donut shop and bought a cup of cofee and returned to his car, a block away from the house. He stayed in his car to avoid driving under the influence, and when he was attacked he was sitting in his car, no way to retreat and outnumbered he grabbed his legally owned weapon and defended himself. No where in the article does it state he "went home" and retrieved a weapon, returned and opened fire. He never made it further than the dunkin donuts where he purchased a cofee.

  3. I was involved in an on duty MVC, while treating a pt. I will not be delving far into this topic. I am alive, banged, bruised, sore but lucky to be alive. If you are new, been here a while, or a crusty ol medic, heres a few things to reinforce. Secure your equipment. If it can get loose and fly, it will. No RL&S unless they are dying. Secure yourself! I would LOVE to see a mandate for all new ambulances to have attendent seat harnesses. I am not fond of playing pinball, when I am the pinball. Be safe guys. This has been a very sobering experience.

  4. P3, though I hate stories that have been reported in the popular media to be reported as fact, you've also failed to give us the benefit of your source(s) of information. Where did you get your own 'unbiased' information? Not sniping, just asking you to be fair when calling others 'slow.' Dwayne

  5. Funny, I don't see a word about interviewing.

  6. Not sure your real question is about interactions of meds. Many diabetics (most eventually) will have HTN and CAD problems. Your real question is how to convince a stubborn family member to get help...reality is often times you cant. But perhaps their spouse could. When you explain to them that frequent need for NTG is a sign of worsening CAD (AKA a crescendo pattern of unstable angina), and that NTG is not a cure for the issue (for many, when you take a pill, they no longer have the underlying problem...) maybe that will help. Honestly though, having dealt with a stubborn relative (my grandmother who raised me) often tough love wont work. In fact it may make things worse. Especially if they are older than you and saw you in your diapers, there is NO WAY may people will be forced to do something by a "whipper snapper". Try the soft sell before you try the hard sell. End the end....People have the right to make poor choices.

  7. wrong. He was at a party that took place after a fund raiser for his deceased partners kid, a party he drove one of the shooting victims to. He was a block away from the house when he was attacked by 3 individuals with bats who caved in his windshield when he defended himself with his legally owned handgun. He then rendered aid after the threat was eliminated. The "victims" are well known to police, one served time for vehiciular homicide, the other was arrested for assaulting EMT's and police while drunk earlier this year. Obviously the events were too much for him to handle, and he left a fiance and unborn child behind.

  8. If I remember the content of the original article, he was asked to leave by his former partner's family, went home and got the gun and went back to the gathering. Upon his arrival back at the gathering, an argument ensued; and that's when he got the gun and opened fire. Obvously, the only LOGICAL thing to do was to honor the family's request to leave and stay gone.

  9. I think you are misunderstanding my original post. Actually by what you posted it looks like you did not even read the original post. I know the interview and your social skills land you a job. I just want to know what I can do to make my resume get me places.

  10. Cops: 2 brothers shot by Boston EMT at Abington house party Updated: Monday, 21 Sep 2009, 6:23 PM EDT Published : Sunday, 20 Sep 2009, 10:34 PM EDT Shirley Chan ABINGTON, Mass. - A Boston paramedic accused of shooting his deceased colleague's brothers, then using his emergency training to treat them, was ordered held without bail Monday. Rhys Williams was arraigned on a list of charges, including assault with intent to murder, and was ordered held until a dangerousness hearing Thursday. Abington police say the 41-year-old Williams went to a party after attending a benefit Saturday night for his former partner Mark Brinkman, who died in May. He was asked to leave the party after an argument, then allegedly returned and shot John Brinkman and Paul Brinkman. Both survived, but Paul Brinkman remained hospitalized Monday. A Boston emergency services spokeswoman says Williams, on medical leave since July, has been placed in administrative leave. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer. A public telephone listing for Williams could not immediately be found. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Statement from Thomas M. Menino, Mayor Richard Serino, Chief of Department Barbara Ferrer, Executive Director Sophia Dyer, MD, Medical Director: Boston EMS has learned today that one of its employees has arrested in connection with a shooting incident which took place in the town of Abington over the weekend. Mr. Rhys Williams has been an EMT with Boston EMS since October 2002. Mr. Williams was on "INJURED" leave at the time of the incident, and he has been placed on Administrative leave until further notice. Any further questions about the incident should be referred to the Abington Police Department, or the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. Guess I was right after all....

  11. You're right because the newspaper reported that he was asked to leave and then returned? Are you a bit slow? That was reported by the friend of the "victims", you know the ones with the long history of alcohol abuse and violence? He left the party and went to a coffee shop to get a cup, and then back to his car to sober up when 3 of them came from the home and attacked him in his car, caving in his windshield. Go find the pictures of his car on line, you will see what I'm talking about. I know the paper knows everything, you must feel so high and mighty in your glass house.
