Alpha 1/Alpha 2/Beta 1/Beta 2 Receptors A1/A2/B1/B2 Agonists How does this all work? Something about albuterol being an Alpha 1 Agonist and Epi being Alpha 2? How does this all fit? Ridryder 911 Posted December 12, 2006 Share Posted December 12, 2006 To truly understand alpha & beta responses, one needs to understand and know some basic pathophysiology of CNS. Actually most of our medications affect either alpha 1 or 2, and Beta 1 or 2.. or a combination. I found this site that is pretty simplistic, but at least gives you an insight of the CNS and ANS , then the divisions. After you understand the nervous system you will apply the responses appropriately.. i.e. alpha constricts and beta dilates.. theory. http://www.anaesthesiauk.com/article.aspx?articleid=100506 So get a good grasp of CNS and ANS , then apply the medication actions to that ...
