$13k autopulse

OR

$250k+ pumper and 3-4 hosemonkeys

Which is more cost effective for compressions? :D

Well, if you want to get technical, the city should already have the bucket brigade anyways, so really all you're doing is forcing them to work for their money.

Who said ANYTHING about leaving it behind? The patient is either going to ROSC or the ED is going to call it. The chances are slim to none one or the other won't happen before your paperwork is done and the truck cleaned out and restocked.

$50 in training and $10.75/hr for someone to do CPR.

Right, because Jenny the 110-pound ED tech is going to give the same CPR as an Autopulse. Hell, even Bruce the 230-pound ED tech probably couldn't do it.

Yes, but they justify getting more trucks on per shift by their increased medical call volume.

Aside from the possibly leaving equipment issue, wouldn't the ED staff need to be trained to use the AP? I know that it may be relatively simple to use, but this training could be a big process depending on the size of the ED. And yes, I understand that the medics will still be there when it is being used, but the patient has been passed to ED staff so they really shouldn't be using equipment that they have no been trained on.

Thanks everyone for all your comments. We have now purchased two of these units. They have yet to be used on a code but look to be beneficial to our service due to long travel times. We will see when they are used. Thanks again

Cheers
