Just How Badly Can One Mess Up An ETT?

The attendants allegedly incorrectly inserted a breathing tube into Carifelle's esophagus, instead of her trachea, resulting in her suffering extended oxygen deprivation.

They also allegedly lacerated her spleen and poked a hole in her diaphragm with the incorrectly placed tube and then failed to notice and correct the situation

Is that even possible? How could the spleen and diaphragm be damaged yet not the stomach? Is the spleen actually displaced that far north during late pregnancy that an ETT can reach it?

Working link.

A High Prairie woman has launched a $6.76-million lawsuit against Peace Country Health and two ambulance attendants after alleging she was left permanently brain damaged and lost her eight-month-old unborn child as a result of negligent care following a highway crash.

Umm, yea. It's the ETT that destroyed the spleen, not the crash. Yep, that's it.
