Hi, I used hang out in Pittsburgh, for months on end, every summer, for many years. That was a long time ago, before I was ever invovled in EMS communities. Recently, I've been considering moving there, I miss how much fun I had, how beautiful the city is and that awesome area of America in general. I'm looking for info on what it's like to be a paramedic there- who medics work for, who does the transporting, who has the 911 contract (like private company or fire), what pay is like, how you get Pennsylvania/Allegheny certification... Or any head's ups or tips at all.

Hey everyone. I am an EMT in Oakland, work for a BLS outfit in San Leandro. I've been an EMT since 2009, starting in Arizona. I am most of the way through paramedic school, just waiting for my internship to start up. My school is a slow on getting it going, I'm anxious but excited and ready. Paramedic skills test in June. I'm mostly looking forward to paramedicine in Oakland, but I'll work almost anywhere. My big love is disaster medicine and humanitarian aid in crisis. I have a lot of aspiration for where EMS can lead to, all very exciting. See you all out there.
