About Me

I have approx 35 years of EMS/ED experience. I was a preceptor for EMT,Paramedic,LPN and RN students. One thing that I always try to instill in students is to learn something new every day, no matter how long you have been in this profession. I started out as an EMT,so I do understand what it is like to work on an ambulance, going out on calls when it is pouring down rain and you at the scene of an MVC with extrication, etc. and you are getting soaked to the very core of your existence. I would come to the defense many times when nurses would complain because the EMS crew ate the last piece of cold pizza that had been sitting on the table for who knows how long. I would grab some Gatorade when I knew the crew arriving any second had been in the heat several hours. Most of the nurses had never worked on an ambulance, and would harass the EMS professionals over things that really were not important. I would come to the defense of "my crews", so there were times when I was not very popular with some of the ED staff, but I didn't care because I know what it is like. I'm married to a firefighter. I am not working currently due to an accident that caused a spinal injury. But I am still keeping up with the current protocols, etc.
