  1. Sorry for the late response Erdoc. I just got back home from a stand by with my ambulance corp. At the corp we are using a standard PCR paper. I have not yet used a ePCR.

Thanks in advance for everyone that is taking time out of their day to answer and respond.

Thanks a lot for those links ERDOC, I will surely put them to good use.

  2. I really don't understand why is he still married.... I mean he goes thru so much work just to sleep with other women. Why not just stay single and be a bachelor. (my opinion) But then again I am only 24 year year old married guy. Been married for 4 years now and I have never cheated before. I mean why bother and why ask for so much stress and nonsense useless drama arguments.(my opinion)

  3. @Dwayne I thought in order to complete a paramedic program you first have to have your state EMT card first?

@ chik That's awesome that you want to be a medic. I am also fairly new to the CITY! as of right now I don't have much to offer to the table because I am a new EMT. But I can tell you that member of the CITY are very quick in answering questions and giving you advice. I do too want to become a paramedic in the near future. It has always been a passion of mine but i guess I was scare to move onto another career!! But one foot at a time and now I'm a EMT. Fellow Paramedics that I know also told me to at least have some experience as an EMT first before you actually move onto paramedic.

But enough of my chit chatting and WELCOME TO THE CITY!

  4. Alright, my EMT class did not emphasize on the PCR subject so much as I think they should have. Now i went on google to look for a good (How to do a good PCR) But I really did not find anything. Now, I know a little to a PCR but not as much as I should know. Does anyone have a good link to a website about PCR and explaining it. Thank you.

  5. Yeah I heard from a lot of people that EMS workers don't get paid as much as they deserve to. Around here in NY I think we get started with/between 11-14 (EMT) I know that's not a lot. I am actually a pharmacy tech and I make 18.50 an hour. (why am I doing EMT?) Well because I want to help out people who need help. I want to get that feeling of accomplishment when someone says Thank you when I save a life. (and well i want to become a paramedic) Right now I am doing this part time and perdium and also volunteering. A lot of people complain that the work is hard for the little pay we get (but why still do it?) because most of us probably and hopefully still do it because we love to help out.

This is my opinion and I am sure someone will disagree , so please, go right ahead.

  6. That was great! It is amazing what one is capable of when the adrenalin is flowing. The only thing I heard reported that was somewhat disturbing was the LEO instructing the good folks to leave the pt. 5 ft from a burning vehicle.

Once i saw this video all I can say was WOW!! I mean that is amazing. Wonderful thing how everybody got together in front of a burning object and risk their life to save a life. But, being a new EMT and all the time they kept teaching us about C-spine man did they really do the guy a favor by dragging him out? If his C-spine was compromise I'd say it definitely made it worst. ( I could be wrong, if so please correct me) The cop started out doing a good thing by holding C-spine., but then he let go!!!

  7. Thanks Dwayne. Always the encourager. I haven't been out of basic that long but I am getting on up there in age. It is an old fart camo avatar. I could change my avatar to something that is more stimulating to your areolar smooth muscle but I will leave that to the Doc and his Weiner Pics.

The Avatar is kind of cute though. We were making a small first aid manual for some local classes and I needed a spacer picture for airway evaluation till my model could arrive from school. So I grabbed the mutt and took a picture. The pic with the airway model is soooo much better.

Dwayne is right ERDoc. I look forward to your post. I true learning experience every time.

Denny389 keep in school buddy. Basic is a good place to start but if you really like EMS keep going. The more you know the more rewarding it becomes.

Thanks a lot!! WORDS OF WISDOM is all i read!!

  8. And you know what Brother? Without new, intelligent, committed EMTs/Medics this site is nothing but a bunch of old fat guys and gals sitting around telling bullshit stories and losing track of what's coming down the road.

It's good to have you here, though I have to tell you I'm a little shocked by your attitude. It's terribly uncommon that we have a brand new EMT that wants to buy and do everything that doesn't either tell everyone to fuck off when they suggest they go slow, or just disappear outright. You're a bit of an anomaly. Thanks for being brave enough to participate, not just in the forums, but to the responses that you've been given.

Now, if you want to be a rockstar EMT....keep coming back. Be even braver still and get involved in the moral/ethical/medical discussions. Answer questions to the best of your ability and make sure that you help those that come after you to have the same bright, intelligent attitude.

I'm excited to hear your thoughts as you move forward...

    Dwayne

Agreed. Though I hate your avatar pic. Not because it isn't cute, because it's cute as hell. (DFIB, not you doc. Though I'm not pretending that your pic doesn't make my nipples a little hard) But because it makes me think of a young kid, someone maybe just out of Basic...

All of your posts get my attention and have me really wanting to read every word. That's a gift. In fact, I love that we've got a bunch of regular posters now that are wicked strong, from all over the world, all walks of EMS at all different levels..I can't think of any time since I've been here that we've has so many really varried smart people at one time here and not have a single "my country/level/education/etc is better than yours" argument in....Man, I can really think of the last one.

And Doc, I can't even tell you how cool, and important, it is to see you here posting all the time now. You're a gift.

This is EMS at it's best in my eyes and my mind. I'm grateful that I'm allowed to participate.

    Dwayne

Hey man thanks!! I know what you mean. I read other topics also and see people get easily pissed off when some one either disagree or tells them good advice. At this point, I am still learning and willing to take any advice I can get. Every one here sounds so smart about this stuff and is unbelievable and amazing. Like i said before, I hope someday I will be good enough to pass on great advice. But all in time. By the way of some stuff does not make sense sorry I am typing this stuff at work on my iPhone lol.

  9. Seriously, do yourself a favour; wait. Give yourself a year minimum in the field, maybe even two to gain some perspective. You can dump a tonne of money into this stuff unnecessarily. Truly consider how you can best help someone off-duty and you'll realize the most useful things you can provide are a good 911 call, a calm presence, a blanket and nothing more complicated than you'd find in the average first aid kit.

Seriously I don't know what I would have done if this site was not available to new EMT!! Amazing responses you guys are telling me and making me think twice before I do anything dumb!! I am taking all these tips and advice into considerations. Keep em coming!!! Thanks
