About Me

I've raised almost all the kids (seven...yes, I gave birth to all of them) and here I go on a new adventure! My daughter and son are both Firefighter/First Responders and that got me interested. I'm currently an ambulance driver (just because we needed more drivers). I've been immersing myself in anything EMT for the last 5 months and read/ studied everything I can get my hands on, trying to give this 54 year old brain a chance...and I haven't even started the class yet! (very annoying to the family) The more I learn, the more I want to learn. Here's to hoping I can retain some of it. My goal is to learn, pass the test and help where I'm needed....hopefully not do too much damage in the process. I live in a small rural town that is near a very busy interstate hwy. The nearest other town is 30 miles away. The nearest hospital is 70 miles away. We don't currently have anyone here that's certified EMTI, so we have to call for intercept for anything ALS. It gets pretty frustrating at times.

The biggest handicap (other than a touch of ADD) is the fact that I'm no bigger than a 12 year old boy. What's easy for a "normal" sized EMT isn't as easy for me. The first challenge was shutting the firehall overhead door. Got that one mastered with a little ingenuity. I've been maneuvering 120lb bales of hay for quite a while now and I think that's helped (it was either that or starving horses).

My other passion is writing and singing country music. My son is a musician and I've had the privilege of singing back up in his band (even played some bass before he found a "real" bass player). He's in the process of recording his 3rd CD. The last two have been big hits here in the northwest. It's been an awesome experience being on stage. We've opened for some big names in country music. Martina McBride was the coolest...plus...she was not much bigger than me. I doubt she could get the firehall door closed either.
