  1. In Ames, Mary Greeley Medical Center has their own Mobile Intensive Care Unit who also runs 911 for Ames and the surrounding area. Story County Medical Center in Story City does 911 for the rest of Story County. West Des Moines just ended their hiring process, but they do 911 and the Iowa EMS Alliance does IFTs. As for other services, you could look at Mercy Medical Center, Frasier Ambulance Service, and Midwest Ambulance Service
  2. 10/10. Who knew a minor in English would ever be useful? Ha.
  3. fp is correct, it is approximately 9-10 months. The didactic portion of the course is 15 weeks with clinicals afterwards. Sorry for the confusion :S
  4. That's from start to finish. You have to have your EMT-B. Within the link, there are PDF files that give descriptions of the course, pre-requisites, and an application form.
  5. I love the responses. It's cool to get the perspective of those with dual citizenship as well. Without repeating what others have said, the United States has done a good job as to keeping wars out of the country, off our land. I can only imagine how unpleasant things could be if the fighting was here. -Tyler
  6. fp-- I'm currently attending the University of Iowa's Accelerated Paramedic Specialist Program. It's a 15-week academy-style didactic training within the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and is also nationally accredited. One of our instructors was one of the first medics in the state of Iowa and the others are very, very experienced. I'll provide a link here, but if you have any questions, feel free to PM me. 7. My link Here's a slideshow of an accident that happened a couple miles from my hometown. From what I understand, they were heading from Carroll to Des Moines with a critical pt as Mercy One was unable to fly. They ended up extricating the driver and airlifting him to Mercy in Des Moines. Stay safe.
