  1. Consider the cost of scene safety, big red firetrucks are easy to see and a lot of shit will deflect off it. No one likes to park cars at 2 a.m. but it is a necessary task and if no one is doing it the job will fall to you or the local law enforcement agency. Extrication is a big heavy job that requires a significant investment in tools and training maybe your administrator can pony that up.

  2. I am a 60 year old man who lives with his family in India.

I too work in the medical proffession in a large Hospital in Delhi.

I am a stretcher Bearer dealing with the movement of both dead and living patients and visitors.

I am of low caste but am reasonbly intelligent and am of a polite and cleanly disposition.

I wish to communicate with American Paramedics and learn all about your duties and tasks. It is my ambition is to become a Paramedic myself in your beautiful and affluent nation.

Please communicate with me and allow me to fulfill my desires of moving my family to the USA.

You dont want to move here its 20 below zero and the wind blows so hard your nostrils freeze shut

  3. Another nail takes one on the head!

Garbage in = garbage out. An organisation has to start off with something to work with, and not just the lowest common denominator. It doesn't guarantee you that they'll all be excellent employees, but it certainly raises your odds significantly.

Mr. Fishbine interviewing Speed in "Mother, Jugs, & Speed" was a great example of a proper EMS interview! :D

I thought that was you in that movie

  4. I watched most of the last "trauma" it was ok. We made fun of it and enjoyed it, don't think I will wait on pins and needles for the next episode. It was like "backdraft" it was silly but it was mental chewing gum. And here is the weird part the PR of these shows, yeah there inaccurate but it gets the profession in front of the voters and that's where you get funded. Yeah sex sells, yeah big explosions sell who gives a shit push your agendas threw whatever venue you can. Look at smoke jumpers it is the peak of wildland firefighting to become one and you can fill the ranks of hotshot crews and engine bosses with aspiring smoke jumpers. The funny part is if you ask a smoke jumper he will tell you it's just a cool ride to work then he's another pulaski motor. Flight medics get much the same a few vacancies will inspire a lot of kids to become good at there profession and do a lot of good work for a shot at the dream.

  5. Joseph, where in the article, which I have now reread a few times, does it say the person in the private car involved in this mess was responding to anything? What I saw written here was a totally private car almost hit by either a fire apparatus and/or an ambulance, and was a civilian who, through no fault of their own, was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

No matter which way the investigation goes, the chiefs of both departments should call a joint meeting of all members of both agencies, moderated by the vehicle safety officers from both agencies, and the local LEOs, too. Get everyone on the same page regarding the safety of all on the roads.

This is yet another time I refer to New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law #1104, which probably has equivelant laws in EVERYBODY'S jurisdictions, to drive with due regard to any and all other traffic on the road.

Same topic source, came from a fire news letter. I will try and link it but I am not very good at that. It was stated that the vehicle in the opposite lane was a fire volly responding to there station. My aggravation with this incident is I am a volly and actions like this just continues to berate the service. As has pointed out paid and volly are both equally susceptible to anal cranial inversion but it has to stop.

  6. I have read several stories about this incident including both versions of the incident and have come to one conclusion on the cause of the incident. No adult supervision. Both agencies acted stupidly and without regard for safety or patient care. Passing and ambulance was stupid, failing to communicate on the radio was childish. The responder in the opposite lane may have been the only innocent in this situation but I doubt it. Actions such as this is fodder for the anti volunteer types and there right if this is how we act. The paid ems employyees also acted in a manner that lacked professionalism and widened the gap between paid and volly. You can be a professional and still be a volunteer the difference is in your actions. Both parties in this confrontation should step back and consider what they are really doing.
